Re: What do you think

looks like you need punctuation lessons zitty

Lightweight is drilled. what is vented? drilled. its not my fault your not intelligent enough to connect the dot.

why does everything have to be spelled out. this is not court, you are allowed to assume. hell you've already made and a$$ out of yourself too me.

But thats okay........don't help talk all your noise........we'll see in not too long from now, if your willing to come to Texas and get your "poorly planned", "just go with what everyone else has", "cookie cutter trans am" and get the pavement kicked in your teeth, and asphault burnt into your nostils. And when GM high tech or hot rod comes and says "WOW", "will you do an article in our mag" i will be looking back at you and your "i did what everyone else did and i think i am special and now know something about cars and can give advise" trans am that is not unique enough to be in a mag.

I mean do you even know anything about trans ams, or do you just act like you do by trying to make others look like they no nothing......and in you twisted little mind you think you really know something. I mean you never give advise, just pick my posts apart........

So whatever.......ham it up......but how long have you had your car.......GM high tech or high performance pontiac called.............didn't think so

damn...you just ruined my day

"GM high tech or high performance pontiac called.............didn't think so"

damn...you're right...how depressing...i think i'll go buy a honda now

"I mean do you even know anything about trans ams, or do you just act like you do by trying to make others look like they [know] nothing"

hey...i'm not the one talking about a vented flywheel, aluminum driveshaft behind a high hp engine, and all the other ricer-ish things you've spewed in this thread.

i like to think i DO know my ****, and i've helped (and been helped) alot of people on this board. some of what i know is first hand, alot is knowledge i've gained from years on this board. i've seen more little kids like you come and go after getting their little egos bruised by those of us who actually know what we're talking about. is anything possible (with cars)...almost. but don't get pissy with us when we try to talk some sense into you as to what is feasible and what is not. go argue, whine, insult and cry someplace else.

Re: What do you think

You're right Will, I don't know anything about Trans Ams or cars. That's because I don't subscribe to or read GM performance magazines. Dammit!

I have some experience in the automotive service industry. Was I a technician? No. Have I ever been ASE certified? No. Do I know of two or three Master Techs with half a dozen ASE certs that I could run circles around? Certainly.

I do try and help people on this board and others if they have a genuine problem. Check some of my other posts. I don't try and help people who claim they know everything already but spew incorrect or incoherent crap.

How long have I had my car? Not long enough. I'm still learning things about it. By doing my homework and asking intelligent questions that might not have been asked before. Have any magazines called to do articles on my car??? Nope, you got me there. Do I have a common setup for LS1 F-bodies? Yup, got me there too. Is is what I wanted and does it work for me? Yes. That's why I did it.

If you want to be so smart and unique, go design your own vehicle from the ground up and start your own forums to discuss it. I'm sure you'll have lots of magazines call you to do articles.

Re: What do you think

The vocabulary word for the day is: OVERZEALOUS

When you do get a mag article just make sure they have the Vented flywheel, viper clutch, aluminum shift forks, 1le Al driveshaft, synthetic blinker fluid weight, what kind of muffler bearings etc all listed in the specs please.

I just hope you find an honest mechanic that isn't going to laugh as he charges you an extra $200 for that flywheel that doesn't exist and another $200 for the Al driveshaft you already have on the car.

Re: What do you think

in hopes of putting some kind of information back into this thead

there is a difference between the aluminum ds that cam in the 4th gens and the shaft that came with the 1le option.

i wanna say the 1le is thinner diameter, or maybe it was the other way around.

and also...4th gens equipped with autos and 2.73 gears...came with steel driveshafts...not positive this was in every year, but i know it has been discussed on the board before.

but then again....i know nothing about trans ams and Hot Rod hasn't called me to do an article....so i guess i shouldn't post mis-information

Re: What do you think

Yeah pretty much. For higher power levels the aluminum can twist or break, but unless you need one they're better because the motor has less work to do spinning the DS so the power goes to the wheels. Lighter drivetrain components spin up faster because there's less inertia to overcome. Certain tradeoffs do exist. For example your gears/tires/clutch take a bigger hit if you shift hard. It's like the tradeoff in Al vs. steel flywheels. A benefit I've noticed for the Al DS is that it's a hell of a lot lighter when you're swapping rear ends using jackstands. Dammit Mike! Those steel DSs are really heavy!

Re: What do you think

the 1le and alum 4th gen DSs are also balanced better. alot of LT1 guys talk about having a nasty vibration at around 80mph...and it's usually attributed to the stock steel vibe-shaft.

it's amazing how much of a differrnce the alum one makes. even if you don't really think you have much vibration...you don't realize it till you change.

i noticed i picked up an high frequency vibration after i put in my new clutch. i installed a lightweight Fidanza aluminum flywheel with the SPEC 4 clutch. not sure if it's fromthe FW or the clutch. it's not bad, but it was noticable at first.
i think it's just that there is alot less mass to soak up the engine vibration (specially with the cam). the stock flywheel is better part of 30lbs, my fidanza is a measly 13lbs

but DAMN...you talk about spining up fast!!! WOW...rev matching is actually tricky cause it's easy to go above the rpm you're trying to match to.

HOWEVER:

"and in you twisted little mind you think you really know something. I mean you never give advise, just pick my posts apart........"

don't take my word for it...i have a twisted little mind...and i don't give advise or good information.

Re: What do you think

Since this is a psychology lesson............

You guys are the poeple who are killing racing and yes this industy is on the wain do to high resource costs and cost of living. And when someone who knows something different then yourselves you gang up and put down others.............every other car industy is welcoming to newcomers and understanding of missunderstandings with newcomers.........even the lt1 guys on this post are pretty excepting of missunderstandings.........why are you trying to chase us "kids" off......if i am a kid ain't i suppose to be the future of racing and with teh new camaro, the future of fbody. But i guess all you old farts own the copyrights to the blue prints for fbodies and you can say who can be in the club and who can't........wow you make gm so proud........i bet they want you on their next legends tour........again because your good and not driving people/business away........

If i am just and idiot with a nice wallet aren't you suppose to open your arms and say come brother let ME help you with your car.........seems like jealousy or angre or something is driving you to be so negative to prospective new fbody owners.........

Now some math........more fbody owners= big fbody market= cheaper parts= more variety= everyone wins

trying to play this exclusivity angle is not what makes a racing industry work.......you don't see mustang struggling to get new owners and members.........wonder why.........they are polite and open and understading

I go to hot rod rallies and yes i am 24 talking to 50 yr olds and there are no issues. i ask my "dumb" or "ignorant" questions and they smile and give an intelligent non-put down answer.

Why do you guys think your better than these vets in the business........which i know they know more than you.......

By the way Abe, My brother in law in an ase master tech that CURRENTLY works for GM and touches an ls1 trans/camaro EVERYDAY.......and look at what i knew a how much it wasn't.......so that means nothing to me.

Point....... just because you know more than one person doesn't mean there isn't someone out there who knows more.............please don't post "i already know this".......because i am sure you do.......the problem is you don't practice it.
