what mod is worth it?

I have a 98 ss with the m6 and am looking for my next mod. I already have the loudmouth, ftra, pro-5 shifter, cags and am getting the texas speed and performance lid. What do you think my next mod should be. I was thinking ported mass air flow sensor ends or pulleys. Does anyone have any track results or hp gains with these. Any other mod suggestions would be great. I dont want to dip into the engine yet. Just some mods that will give me some nice gains for cheap, well not cheap, but decent price. Oh yeah. My rearend is whining. What do you guys think about 4:10's.

thanks

You might also want to invest in some sticky tires to drop those ET's

Id get some tubular subframes and either a 4:10 install, or some LT headers.

Gears huh?
do much highway driving?
say good bye to the good gas mileage! hehe

I personally wouldnt go for more than 3.73 but thats me.. I like some top end and the 4.10 is just too much gear for both daily driver and track use...

Brands I see on this board often are Richmond, Motive and Strange. I have had good results from Strange personally on my other Z.

I wouldnt use the K&N filter personally but am sure you have your reasons.. I just found I lost 3 hp consistantly by using other than paper filter.

I think the MAF would be worthless to you unless you do a few more mods.. They are too inconsistant on our cars with some having problems and others getting a gain.

I would think you need to look into opening up your exhaust.. Perhaps you have a few ponies available there.

You should also consider that some mods are worth their price many times over when you see what they do for you under certain conditions..

Now power is nothing without traction so think about that.. I would suggest the whole standard package of LCA, Panhard and Sub Frame connectors.. They did wonders on my other Z and will really make the car wake up and feel alive IMO.. but another mod that is highly overlooked is the AIRBAG... Quite simply a bladder that is placed in the right rear spring, it preloads the right rear for when you launch adding an extra bit of traction and for only $35 its not bad at all...

Considering that I have the LCA and Panhard Rod in the garage and will not install them until I feel I have run the absolute fastest without them, I do believe that they do help greatly in lowering your ET..

I have heard that 4:10 gears dont hurt you gas mileage. And yes I do about 70 miles of highway driving a day. The only reason I have the K&N is because it came already on the car.

I would never by a maf sensor . I have talked to people that put the stock one back on and it ran faster. Enough for me not to buy one.
What do you mean by opening my exhaust. Headers? I want to get some but there really expensive. I am going to get some but not right now.

Hey what kind of tires do you run. I need to get some. I have the kuhmo's and they are ok but I need something that sticks better. Any suggestions. I really dont want to pay an arm and a leg for them either. I go through them pretty fast.

I am going to get some suspension products. I am going with the lg motorsports stuff. Probably there traction pack. You said they woke your car up and made it feel alive. What do you mean?

Thanks for all the input . I appreciate it.

How much of a difference is 3:73 gonna make. Will I notice a difference in performance. Is the auburn differential any good. My car came with it. Do I need to do anything to it if I put new gears in it. I am not sure what size rear it is. 7.5" ? Do I need a paddle kit. Im really clueless on my rearend.

How are the nittos in the rain? How many miles do they last. I put about 18,000 miles on my car a year. I have about 21,000 out of my kuhmo's right now which is really good for me. I eat tires on all my cars.

Check that out, when you get gears be sure to get the Complete RATECH set. That will come with everything you need to do the install. You can get the gears and the set for around 300. I have heard that Motive gears are the quietest out there.

Although if you are not installing yourself, call up the shop where you wish it to be done because they may have all the accessories needed for the install, which would mean you don't need to buy the RATECH set.

Now for the difference in 4:10 and 3:73, I have had neither but from stock 3:42-3:73 isnt much of a jump and I think you wouldn't see much of any difference. I have also heard they in 6th 4:10's on the highway only rev a couple hundreds RPM higher than stock. Maybe someone with these gears could chime in.

Mark

EDIT : Yes the rear end is a 10 bolt 7.5"
