What are some typical LS1 Problems?

What are some typical LS1 Problems?
Just wondering what are some typical LS1 problems that occur? say with a LS1 with about 50K on it?. Any ongoing problems most people have? example, like LT1's have the intake leak and crappy opti's? what do you guys have to say?

But what is this piston slap that occurs?
Any other opinions

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
my car has piston slap, sounds like its thrown a rod when its cold in the morning.
the hard high pressure side of the A/C tried to occupy the same space as the AIR emissions crap, A/C lost of course. that was about 180 to fix total. this happened at about 55k miles.
tranny rear seal leaked, replaced that when i baught the car at 43k miles.
eats a little bit of oil, but i'm not really concerned because it seems to be "normal"

I let go of my clean '98 6 spd Z28 for $7500, 95k miles, but was a mint condition car that needed nothing, hell, I gave the kid new brakes, panhard, plugs/wires I didn't even install yet......

theres nothing serious to worry about.
warped rotors are common but just upgrade them and that problem is solved.
theyre extremely reliable even with mileage on them.

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
I don't think there are too many problems directly related to the LS1 (engine) that would make the car unreliable. The only issues I've had have been "typical GM issues" (you know, power window motor, both fog lights have burned out ... twice now for the right side ... pinion seal started seeping ... rear hatch glass replaced to fix defroster problem ).
Mine suffers from the piston slap (when cold) and the LS1 "tick" ... an unexplainable ticking that sounds like sloppy lifters or valvetrain noise!? Some say it's the fuel injectors ... I call on that one, but regardless, it's been this way since day 1, and I've now got almost 47k on it ... I don't think it's a serious issue.

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
Grenading rear ends. Most people that break them are at the strip with sticky tires doing 6K clutch dumps. Autos are a lot easier on the rear ends than M6's.
My problems have included a leaking pinion seal, a camshaft position sensor(went out twice, 2nd time was free with a brand new GM part), warped rotors, Monsoon speakers blowing up(I've never had a stock stereo survive with me for more than 6 months), a weird rear end rattle, told it was normal, its had it for 20K miles and has been fine. New problem is a ticking noise at high RPM's, most likely detionation. Still on the orginal plugs at 67K.

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
My 2000 T/A had 21k miles when I got it 2 1/2 years ago. It now has 44k miles. The only problem I had was a O2 sensor and warped front rotors which I replaced by a set of Baer eradispeed which are garrented against warping and the clutch grabs a little high which I have a spec St3 I'll be putting in soon.
From what I have read and heard the weakest part of the car is the 10 bolt rear and they have weak clutches.
Also the rear control arms are'nt very good either. I got mad wheelhop with them. I replaced them with a set of hotchkis control arms and torque arm and seemd to help alot.
overall, they're great cars and thats coming from a Ford guy!!( I own a 'stang & F body and I previously owned 8 other mustangs).
Just find one with the options you want and go for it!!

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
My 02 is still pretty wet behind the ears, so I can't really speak of any problems yet. They do have this really bad gas leak problem though... I think that's the electric tank door that spills a couple gallons when you gas it.

Re: What are some typical LS1 Problems?
alt went out(but think was bc of system), window motor went out, snapped axle at track with 3k launch with 245 nittos... hmmm and tranny grinding... but... that all depends on how it was driven rly...
