Just wanted to know the gear ratio of my car (98Z), I found a good deal on a 2002 stock SS gear 3:23. Just wondering if I have the same one or not.

You could have 3.23's with a Z28 A4. Check the RPO codes on the driver's side door.

GU2 = 2.73
GU5 = 3.23

mine is a 98 and i have a 3.23 but i also have a print out from chevrolet with every option that my car came with according to the vin code and it says that the 3.23 was the performance gear ration option. just my .02

by the way i thought that all the camaros after 2000-01 were 3.42? correct me if i am wrong.

Consider yourself corrected ... I had the 3.23s in a my '01 ... it was an option.

The best way to find out what you have in your car is the RPO tag in the driver door.
The best way to find out how to read the RPO codes is the SERVICE MANUAL. GO BUY IT!!!!

BY THE WAY YOUR VIN WILL NOT TELL YOU ALL OF THE OPTIONS YOUR CAR HAS. LOOING AT A VIN, THERE IS NOT A WAY TO TELL WHAT THE CAR CAME WITH FROM THE FACTORY. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE RPO TAG IN THE DRIVERS DOOR. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS IN THE VIN AND HOW TO READ IT IT TELLS YOU IN THE SEVICE MANUAL. AND NO WHERE IN THE VIN IS AN OPTIONS LIST. THERE ARE TO MANY OPTIONS FOR THE CAR FOR THE VIN.
ALL THE VIN TELLS YOU IS THE BASIC PARTS TO THE CAR. LIKE: MOTOR, TRANS ECT.

NOW LOOKING AT THE RPO TAG YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOUR CAR CAME WITH, LIKE: AXLE, TRANS, MOTOR, REAR DEFOG, WHEELS, TIRES, TYPE OF SEATS, POWER WIN, POWER LOCKS, T TOPS, SHIFTER, BODY COLOR, GLASS, TRAC CONTOL, POWER SEATS, EVERY THING THAT CAN BE DIFFERANT FROM CAR TO CAR.

NOW IN HAVE A 2002 Z28. I CAN NOT TELL YOU WHAT YOUR CAR HAS. I HAVE THE SEVICE MANUALS TO MY CAR, A 2002 NOT THE YEAR YOU HAVE. SO IF GM CHANGED ANYTHING FROM YOUR YEAR TO MY YEAR IT WOULD NOT BE IN MY MANUAL. THIS IS WHY I SAY GET THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR YOUR YEAR.

first off if you would have read more carefully i said that the vin number was what i gave the chevolet dealership and they were able to look up everything that my car came with according to the record of the vin number. then all they did was print the list. i know that you cant tell all that crap from lookin at the vin number, not trying to be a jerk but dont want you to think that i am that stupid. anyways i do like the random tech cat back but it is hard not to i only paid 70 dollars from a friend, 3 inch exhaust for 70 dollars not much to complain about there but i am still gonna get the loudmouth somewhere down the line.
