Not trying to be a wiseguy but you should have posted this in the ''LT1 Forum'' if you are asking about your 1997 TA WS6. I believe the stock stat was 180? I am by no means positive about that though. As far as reprogramming the computer, you probably should do that to change the temps when the fans turn on. Otherwise kind of defeats the purpose of installing a cooler stat.

The thread starter may have a LT1 in his sig , but he is asking about a stock LS1 thermo...hence the 2001 ws6 title.
