Post What would an LS1 dyno on an engine dyno?

If you oulled one straight from a 2001-2002 F-body, Vette and slapped it on an engine dyno, what would the numbers be? Oh, and if you order a crate motor, this is the number that is actually advertised, right? Thanx

well i've never heard of anybody actually doing it but if you ESTIMATE the power at the fly wheel (engine) by using rear wheel horsepower then you should come up with around 350 to 360 stock. For example...My 2002 ss (bone stock) dynoed 302hp at the rear wheels. If you assume a 15% drivetrain loss and calculate backwards you get 355hp at the flywheel. Some people will say there is less drivetrain loss and some will say more but 15 percent should be close and this is also close to the 350 hp that GM rates the vette engines at (which are pretty much the same engine we have). Then again, these are all estimates. The only real way would be to pull it, but who wants to do that. As for the crate motor question, yes. I believe the numbers for the crate motors designated their rated horsepower.

One of my friends from school worked for Roush Racing and he would do engine dyno tests. He did testing on the LS1 but I don't recall the exact number of HP that it put out on the engine dyno.

Ask him yourself, Eriks2001SunsetSS

I think an LS1 out of a Corvette will dyno higher than one out of a Camaro, because the ones installed in Camaros are downgraded from the vette ones. They give us the truck cam because they don't want the Camaro to be quite as good as thier flagship, the Corvette. It makes a little sense, but I still would prefer a genuine LS1 rather than the Camaro LS1

Nope...both same motor, both have the same truck cam, both would dyno the same on the engine dyno!!!! thiis is a fact that you can verify with a phone call to a local chevy dealer and ask for the part number for the cam of the 2001 camaro then the 2001 vette...same part number. I've done it to settle an argument. I would be willing to bet that the engine is the same part number, too. The "de-tune" is the exhaust and intake (NOT the manifold, which is the same).
