It would sound like time to pull the valve covers.

Seriously, diagnose a possible valve spring failure with a visual inspection, not by the sound it makes. If you have a rocker or pushrod failure which could have the same symptoms as a failed spring, pulling the covers would tell you. Its a 10 minute job...

If the car is still running and you have to ask, you probably don't have a broken spring.

You would know it if you broke a spring. If you were lucky you would only get a bent valve stuck in the head. If you weren't, you would trash the head, the piston, and possibly a cylinder sleve/block.

A friend of mine broke a 918. The valve dropped and all said and done, the only thing in the long block that was salvagable was 1 head. IIRC something even cracked his intake.

Remove your coil packs and pull the cover and take a look. The gasket is reusable so it'll only cost you time.

Where's Mike94ZLT1?? He had an incident w/ CATASTROPHIC valvetrain failure!!! holes in pistons.. I can't find the thread.. It was in here.. Somewhere.

If you broke a spring, it'd be running on 7 or less cylinders. Broken spring = no compression = No valve head in the correct place to seal off the chamber = (risk of) valve falling into cylinder. Valve falling into a cylinder can break the valve head off, cause the valve stem to fall into the cylinder, the the stem would bounce around till punching a hole thru a piston.. THat's if the locks stay on the retainer which in the event of a broken spring, isn't too likely.

in the time it took me to write this you could have had your valve covers off to check. do not screw around with this, horrible things can happen

THis is what can happen if you break a Spring.. Not quite as bad, but you get the idea.. Only limited to one or two cylinders, depending on how many springs break..

There's a sticky that I placed at the top of this forum warning people of using those springs a few months ago.

Sorry, Cory, but more than likely you have a broken spring if that's what you possibly think it is. Pull the valvecovers.

The two best choices in my opinion for most buildups are the Patriot Golds or the PRC Duals.

I've just never used them.

I'm not saying they aren't good springs --- I'm talking about personal experiences.

this was taken a few days ago... prob not broken eh? but it still runs like ****. idles fine, once hits 2krpm it missfires bad, till 2800-3100ish then most of the time it clears up and pulls, but i cant even drive it. it badfires a good pit when driving. smells bad of gas...

can this all be just a tuning issue? or not sure without messing with it/testing it?

Tell us a story.... What's in the car? Is it tunned or on the stock tune? When and how did the problem start? What have you done to fix it?

Idea. This didn't start after you washed the car,did it? My car was doing nearly the exact same thing. I had washed the car and somehow got water into the connectors on the PCM.
