I've heard a lot of exhausts on LS1s and the GMMG sounded by far the best throughout the entire RPM range. Some sound good at idle, but they they sound like @ss high up. Others sound crappy if they aren't at WOT over 4k.

GMMG+LS1

Granted, the LT1+GMMG still sounds better

i need to get into this, thats about 100 worth of pipes right there

hehe i agree.....if you went to a muffler shop, the two mufflers would cost about $50 each........then the rest of the piping and tips custom bent would be around $200...........so including shipping the entire GMMG setup would be a fair deal for around $350-400.............$700 is highway robbery.......but hey.........if suckers keep buying it, the company will keep selling it.

Ok.............not to incite more flaming, but I just went to sweet-thunder.com to check prices on SS chambers (not sure where GMMG gets theirs). Prices range from $66.25-127.75 per chamber depending on chamber size, length, etc. The GMMG chambers are the longer ones, so you are probably looking at $100 or so EACH chamber.......$200 right there. So in addition to the other $200 in materials (based on your estimation) you are up to $400. Then there is a fair amount of welding and assembly (system comes literally complete, attach the i-pipe and tips and its done, took 30 minutes to intall with no lift) so there is an additional labor charge. Then the system has to get from where it is made to GMMG. Not sure how far it has to go, but there is a cost here. Then there is the shipping cost from GMMG to the customer, which is probably anywhere from $30-50 depending. So not including the labor to basically complete the system when it leaves GMMG is already at $450-500 cost (plus any cost to weld up the chambers and everything). So they probably make in the end somewhere between $100-200 on the system. Is that really that bad? Do you guys forget that there are more than materials that go into making an exhaust system? They are in the business to make money. Yes, they could probably sell it for $500 maybe and make no money. But couldn't SLP sell the loudmouth for $150? Thats probably all it costs to make it, but they sell it for $350. Look at the guys making the dynomouths for $150, its the same damn system! So technically every loudmouth owner is getting just as screwed as the GMMG owner according to those criticizing (double screwed cuz it sounds like *** IMO, lol).

Do people seriously believe that Corsa, B+B, Magnaflow, SLP, and all the other companies aren't making a good $100+ on each system here? How come people never flame those other high dollar systems? They certainly are more basic than the GMMG and cost as much if not more. I guess according to you bro, we are all 'suckers' if we don't have some exhaust shop make up some system at their cost. Whoever said this thread was pointless cuz somebody posted it to start a thread by hating was right. What have we accomplished? Nothing...........the people who own/support GMMG still do and those who don't understand why we do still don't. Everyone has their opinions, I don't think anyone is a sucker that buys any catback since it is what they want, even though somehow they could probably get it made cheaper.

Just my .02........

I am itching to get this system. Got the money for it right now. Just one thing though. About how long does it take to ship on average? More importantly, how big is the box that it is shipped in? There is going to be several things I'm going to install on my Z when I get back to the US.

About a week from when they get the MO..........they have a good tunraround from my experiences with both single system purchases and GP's. The box is pretty big, it comes almost in one whole piece.

Any estimates on how big? Gotta see if there is enough room at the house my Z is at.

I dunno, maybe an email to GMMG could get you the exact dimensions.

wrong........measure the gmmg chambers...........and i shouldnt have to tell you.........exhaust manufacturers actually pay about 1/3rd of what those mufflers actually sell for..........i doubt gmmg pays any more than $20-30 for each of those mufflers on their system.

i included the price of all the piping, tips, and welding in the $200 easily.

i dont think people are suckers for buying it......youre only a sucker if you think the system is actually worth $700

i think some people just buy what they have their heart set on, regardless of the price.

i would assume that as an intelligent person.....you realize the system is probably worth about $400, but you dont mind paying the $700 for it because it happens to be the one you want and you dont wanna go the DIY route and possibly build something unsatisfactory.
im not flaming you for that at all.

Sounds great..........DannoWS6 can comment on that if he sees your post. I can let him know also. Doesn't rasp or drone, it stays true to form. Has some bark though when you let off the gas, sounds awesome. He may have a sound clip up also.

I think that would be a bit low. My wife worked for a place that sold muffler shops and supplies for 8 years. The typical mark up was 100% at each sale. By the time it got to the muffler shop it cost 4 times the manufacture cost. I didn'y believe her until I looked at their prices to shops and the invoices from the vendors. Since GMMG sells direct, I'd say they make a minimum of $300 per unit. Stainless is more expensive and harder to work with than a mild steel. Mandrel benders are more expensive than standard pipe benders also.

My choice was a MagnaFlow on stock pipes. I like the sound and it flows 90% as good as a full 3"cat back IMHO. Besides that, I got most of the horse power gains with about 10% of the cost and it's still all stainless.

This debate will continue as long as there are choices. You just have to be happy with what you end up with.
