Whole new exhaust if I get headers?

Hey guys. I was thinking of getting new headers and a y-pipe. However, I have a 2.5" exhaust system and all the headers/y-pipes I have seen are 3.0". If I want new headers, does this mean I need to toss my Borla????

Basically, all the headers seem to be made for a 3" exhaust. Besides scrapping my Borla, what are my options? Or am I that much better off going with 3"?

Thanks,

Jim

its a 3" with 2.5" rear pipes I believe or something like that, in other words, no, you won't have to toss your borla, it will bolt right up with your longtubes and a y-pipe.

The Borla will work fine but it's heavy as heck, you might want to swap in a lighter system, but the Borla won't make you lose any power.

No, it is 2.5". I originally bought the 3" system (p/n 14780 ) and when I went to connect it to the stock Y-pipe, the borla was too big. For the 2002 SS, it's p/n 14911 . If you have a 2002 SS and order from Jegs, they now know they don't carry the exhaust for your car, thanks to me :-)

So basically, I'm screwed then, huh?

All I know is that Borla's website says a 2002 SS needs the 2.5" system, and the 3" system wouldn't bolt up. I wish I was in your shoes.

i guess all i can say is sorry for the luck man. although, you might have been able to get an adapter to go from a 2.5" pipe to a 3" pipe for the first borla catback you got, and then when you got the rest of your exhaust you could have just dumped the adapter.....i know this info. is late to be of any use....

again, sorry for the bad luck.

well of course the 3" borla is gonna be a little big...the stock pipes are 2 3/4"

you basically put a more restrictive exhaust on your car by adding the 2.5" exhuast...

99.9% of other guys who have installed borlas or any catback for that matter are using 3"...unless we are all wrong and your's is the correct way

LOL. All I know is the 3" kit didn't fit, and didn't include an adapter to make it fit, and Borla recommends the 2.5" kit as it bolted right on with no issues at all.
