And yet another clunk...

Damn, I can't remember the last time my car DIDN'T have a problem.

Current problem: there's a minor clunk coming from the rear of the car. Most of the time it's right before the car comes to a complete stop, but sometimes it happens as soon as I start moving. It's not the tranny mount, and it's not the torque arm bushing. A few people said the U-joint, a few said check the calipers. I don't know WTF it is. It started about a week before MIR, and it never got worse after, so I'm thinking/hoping it's not anything in the rear.

And another symptom (not sure if it's related) I had about an extra 450 lbs in the car the other night, and I got on it, and there was a weird vibration/clunking coming from what sounded like the same area. I don't exactly know how to explain it, but I thought it was really weird that it only happened with all the extra weight.

So would it make sense to be the U-joint? I'm thinking that with all the extra weight, it messed up my pinion angle or something to that effect, and it caused the weird noises.

Exclamation May be the spline coupling on the driveshaft.

Mine does this as well.

There was a truck service bulletin that I am unable to run across at the moment -

When the site comes back up, try here :

Seems like it was in the '01 TRUCK section ...

Good Luck !

Britt

P.S. I just have learned to live with it.

Re: And yet another clunk...

Mine clunks at low speeds going over small bumps - been trying to figure it out for a few months now. This weekend I even removed the rear sway bar (because I could see where it had been hitting my TA cover), tightened everything I could reach with the suspension loaded in my driveway - still clunking. There is a '01 TSB for "Noise/rattle from rear of vehicle while driving (Replace rear backing plate bolts)" in the '01 F-body section on the site Newbie T/A posted. I have an appointment tomorrow with one of our club sponsors to have it looked at tomorrow - we have a lot of the same suspension/drive train mods in common - I'll post what they find.
