Are you scared of high miles?
I am about to buy a 2002 WS6 with 84,xxx miles on it. The price is definately right but I just wondered who has had any experience with higher mileage LS1's? The car is a one owner and they REALLY are all highway miles. What are your opinions? Thanks.

Holy smokes!!!
There are some high mileage LS1's on here, too, and I don't they've reported any significant problems with them. Except for the normal wear and tear items, of course.
As long as the car has been, and will be, taken care of, you will easily get 100+K out of it. I'd want to give it a very thorough inspection before buying it, though.
If the price is right, why not? What is the price, BTW?

hmm.. thats messed up. the year is insignificant as long as its a 98++ with an LS1 (IMO). that is however alot of miles for an 02.. make sure you have a mechanic check it out. if it was well cared for (fluids changed regularly, not ragged) i bet you could get another 40k out of it np before its time to consider a rebuild..
and i couldnt see myself paying over 12 grand for it.. mayb 13 if the tires are in good shape and the oil and brakes where just done
here's a guage for ya. i bought mine bone stock for 14K with 41K on the odometer. mine was well cared for.
gl man. LS1's pwn.

I would definetly have the car checked from top to bottom to ensure all is mechanically sound.

You bought your car with extremely low miles for $17000. However its a z28 and this is a fully loaded ws6. So there is a significant price difference their. Also keep in mind I said its UNDER $15000. I appreciate the comments keep them coming!

I would get it since I am from NJ and I know the prices of LS1's around here and they are significantly more expensive than they are in TX, FL, and the rest of the southern states. For example: a 99 Z28 with 67000 miles is worth something like 14 fully loaded.

To me, it would depend on the year. 80,000+ miles on a 2002 would definately concern me because I doubt they changed the oil every 3,000 miles which would be about every other day to them for that car.
I do have worries about putting many miles on my current z28 which is a 1998 with 59,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 3,000 miles but just telling people about my miles can get people to jump to conclusions. But from now on, when I buy my next camaro, which will be the 5th gen, I will drive it less to keep a low mileage and will drive my 98 as the daily driver while my 5th gen will be my special occasions car. The reason for this is because even though I know my car has been well treated, it gives people a better impression when you tell them you have such a nice car with low miles. It's as if they consider it a more expensive asset.

Simply have it checked out.......there's a risk involved with purchasing any used car, but I would rather have my 90,000 mile '99 with its highway miles, previously owned by someone who took very good care of it, than a 15,000 mile car driven like a bat out'a hell! If fluids have been regularly changed, and it's not a lemon to begin with, you'll probably be fine. I have never been afraid of the odometer; only of HOW the miles were racked up. The Engineering & Surveying Firm I work for has Chevy work trucks from the early nineties on up, and we don't baby them. One truck has over 200,000 miles, one has about 158,000, and both are still running as strong as ever. My point here is that Chevys are fairly tough IMO. Go for it if you feel good about it, and good luck to you....these cars are all awesome!

As previously mentioned, if the car was well taken care of it'll be a good buy. I have a 100k `98 Z28 where the previous owner was on top of the maintance. It is in far better mechanical and coesmetic shape than some LT1's I looked at with 35, 40K.

yes i am scared. I'm at 92,000. The reason I'm scared is because the first 40,000 were VERY VERY abusive miles from the previous owner. But, on the other hand, I'm looking forward to collecting the insurance and then swapping in a LS6 when the time comes.

The thing to consider is that YES it is a lot of mileage for a 2 year old car, BUT, I think it proves that the mileage must have been from a lot of highway driving, and anyone who knows anything about cars should know that highway mileage is a GOOD thing compared to city mileage!
I've had my car for 20 months now (it'll be 2 years in June) and I've put on just over 32,000 miles so far (avg. of 1600 miles per month). I'd say that I do 70% highway, and about 30% city driving, and I know that I would feel a lot better about the condition of my car if it was closer to 100% highway................that ~30% city driving is VERY BAD for my car!! I love the neck-snapping acceleration light-to-light!!! (but I'm sure that's not the best for the engine or tranny especially ).
I say if you're getting a good deal, I'm sure that WS6 is fine.

I just bought my 2000 Z28 with 75k on the clock for 10,900. I know WS6's cost a lot more than Z's so i'd say jump on it. Miles don't mean a thing as long as its been taken care of. My last camaro was an 87 Z28 and it had 189k miles on it with no rebuild and it ran like new. As long as you like it, go for it.
