The current trade values are around $15,000, but that's assuming normal mileage (25-30K). It all boils down to what makes you happy. If you have a good warm fuzzy about it....go for it

I would definetly have the car checked from top to bottom to ensure all is mechanically sound.

if your getting the car for a great price, you can always use the money you saved for the motor when it blows up

Are you kidding ? What is there to think about ? 85k isnt that many miles , it is for an 02 , But in geral its not . Sounds like your getting hell of a deal ! I personally am not afraid of high miles . Especially if the miles are highway . I would say buy it , you wont regret it .

unless youre planning on doing alot of work to this car right away and arent concerned about high mileage get it.also if you can make your own repairs and have money to dump into it thats ok too.

most cars with this kind of mileage will eventually need to have something major replaced on it.weather it be a trans, susp, brakes, headgasket ect.not saying this will hapen but its just more likely.

if its going to be your daily driver id look for something with lower miles thats still under warranty.

this is just what i would do but some people dont care and would just replace parts as they go.

Miles are just a #. A nice looking LS1 WS6 like that for a good price, I would jump on it.

BTW, I don't have a LS1, I have a 94Z LT1 w/ 128,000 and still running strong besides a intake manifold leak which is common in LT1's

As far as high mileage, did you check to see if the guy had a 4.10 gear in the back and never fixed the computer to accept it. because for every mile you put on, it's like putting 5-6 miles. My friend was in the same boat back in 2000, he wanted a camaro like mine, it was great, but it had 90,000 miles. We take it for a test drive and notice that we went like 3 or 4 blocks...and it registered a miles already. The only problem with LS1's is those stupid window motors. Such garbage, mine break every 7 months. So tired of replacing them.

Trans Ams have always been more expensive than Z28s, and WS6 models cost even more. Comparing a WS6 to a base Z28 is not a fair comparison.

84K is higher mileage compared to some of the cars on this site - no arguing that. However, 02 models were available for sale in mid/late 01. In another 3-6 months, the car could be 3 years old. If you look at it from that perspective, that's 28k miles per year. It could also be a later production car that's only about 2 years old, which would put you at 42k miles per year. Quite a bit of driving. The only way to know for sure would be to check the build date on the driverside door. My 98 Trans Am was built in 11/97.

I bought my car in January of 2003 with 58k miles. It was a one owner vehicle that was traded in for a new car. I now have 78k miles on it and mechanically the only thing that's failed was the fuel pump (my own fault because I ran out of gas). The car had slightly warped front rotors when I bought it, but I knew all about 98+ rotor warpage before I went shopping and did not let that stop me from buying one car over another. The power antenna broke a few months ago and was strictly a cosmetic issue, but I replaced it anyway. I have no piston slap and very little (if any) oil consumption.

Anyway, enough rambling.

Without you telling us the specific price, it's hard to say if it's a fair deal, exceptional deal, etc. My recommendation: Check the oil (is it low?) trans fluid (if it's an A4, is it burnt?) tires, brake rotors, power antenna, headlight motors, ac, and heater. If possible, purchase an aftermarket powertrain warranty through your credit union or bank. I bought a 3 year/36 mile warranty for $900 through my credit union that paid for itself when my fuel pump died. If it's a fair price and you like the car, go for it. If it's an M6, I'd have even fewer worries.

Hope this helps in some way...

I guess I should have read page 2 before I replied. Sincw it's gone, what were options (color, A4 or M6) and price?

I guess it's just like my brother says: "When a deal comes along, you have to have your head out of your *** and your cash in your hand!"

If you're still looking, check out ebay. F-Bodies are ridiculously cheap on there.
