that guy is a one and million example, hence why hes in a mag for it?
If you read the gmhtp article you ll read he works at a machine shop or a tool and dye joint. Dont remember exactly but regardless he could make parts at work. He build a home made n2o kit. He installed he 3.73 gear himself. I think, but he may of also borrowed parts or slicks too.
All in all what he did for 2500 or 3k some guys couldnt do with twice that so he is not a fair comparison.
Same deal as if you build your own turbo kit. Your not counting the 80-100 hrs of labor your going to do yourself. If you take some guy who could port his own heads he would be the same deal. You have to think average guy, I cant tell you how many people ask questions installing headers.

I went 10.98 at 124mph for less then $5000. But it was on the bottle. The car ran 11.2's all year I pushed it a little harder to get the 10.9. That was even with a slipping tranny. Motor still runs fine pulled it out to build something that will put me up with some of the top LT1 cars. It would be hard to do it N/A but I plan on running 10's on the motor this year low 9's on the bottle. I will have over $12000 in the motor $5000 in the cage and suspension.

So can it be done for $5000? Yes with some used parts and the bottle. But will the tranny and rearend hold up. No I've seen some cars with about every bolt on possible not make it to the 10's other people have been known to skip and cut corners and make it there.

So you want to hit 10s with a mustang 347ci...built motor in a light a$$ coupe..certainly possible but for under 5k, thats a challenge. I wouldnt even mess with the rearend if its an 8.8. Buddy of a buddy ran mid 6s in the 8th before he started breaking axles, but everyone has diff experiences with that senario.

Ive got a bunch of mustang buddies...another guy I run with has a afr headed 306 and runs 7.80s on motor in the 8th...equivalent or close to a 11.80 if translated to a 1/4mi. Once hes sprays 10s hes there, now he does all his own work and has around 6500 in his car. Unless you are really good with tools and know mechanics very well its nearly impossible to pay someone and stay on the budget your looking at. That 347 would likely cost you around 3k or more if done right at a machine shop etc.

Good luck!

Thats cause the imports are missing 4 cylinders!!!!!

so they can run what I ran with bolt-ons. Only way the little fart cans are gonna run are with a power adder, not NA. I have yet to see one that can break the 12's(EVO) Not sure what dsm is but I'm not into that either.

4 bangers can make good power when you rev them. there is a shop not 20 minutes from me that puts out some fast hondas.

check this out:

250 whp out of a 2.0L 4 cyl.
Engine: 86mm x 89mm, 7.7cc Cp pistons (12.8~13:1 compression), manley lightweight rods, oem bearings, oem overbored headgasket, arp headstuds, headgames ported gsr cylinder head, ferrea valvetrain, stock size intake/exhaust valves, skunk2 pro3 camshafts, skunk2 cam gears, hondata IM gasket, AIR intake manifold, skunk2 70mm pro series throttle body, velocity stack intake, DTR "street sweeper" 4-1 header, 3" thermal exhaust, RC 440cc injectors, walboro 255lph pump, neptune
http://www.evans-tuning.com/et_allmotor_eg.html
the torque isn't much but when you consider its only 2.0L thats 84.5 wtq per liter. lets assume a 10% driveline loss (fwd manual cars don't lose as much power as rwd manual cars) thats over 185 ft lbs. thats 221 peak BMEP. FANTASTIC for an all motor engine. a stock displacement LT1 producing the same BMEP would be making 510 ft lbs of torque. Not to mention in a car that weighs 2,250lbs it has a very good weight:hp ratio as evidenced by the 11.78 @ 114.6mph. he runs better than a LOT of cars on here.
Now don't call me a honda lover. I would much rather have detriot iron (or mexican plastic assembled in canada in our case) but you can't assume all 4 poppers are slow...

edit:
take a look at the torque curve. it has nearly 75% of peak torque from 2,000 rpm to 9,500 rpm. 90% of peak torque from 3,500 rpm to 8,500 rpm. impressive.

now, back to your regularly scheduled arguing.
