02 sensor problem, help!!!

i got a problem, my car was running like crap, it felt like it was running on 6 cylinders, so i had a diagnostic test done, and it was a 02 sensor, so i was wondering if i could replace the factory sensors with simulators, to save me a a lot of money.thanks...

Re: 02 sensor problem, help!!!

Simulators are only for the post cat sensors on cars that have them.

i dont understand, my car is a 96'ss lt1, it has 02 sensors after the cats, i was wondering if i could just plug in the simultors to cure my car from running like crap, instead of having gm replace the 02 sensors with factory units.

your car has 4 o2 sensors, 2 before the cats (provides PCM with info for fuel trim adjustments), and 2 after the cats (to provide PCM with cat efficaincy info for cat health calculations/DTC flags), it is only the 2 after the cats that can be replaced with sims

Or you could just shell out a few more $$ and do the job right the first time around. I mean, hell, I look forward to **** breaking on my LT1, afterall, I gota all the room in the world to work with I'd do it right the first time, get factory/OEM replacements so you don't have to work in the realm of no room any sooner than you'd like.

the rear sensors will not effect how the engine runs, other then setting a DTC and turning on the light, only the fronts are needed for correct engine operation, so , no, sims will not help this problem

Re: 02 sensor problem, help!!!

You can alway put sims in for the rear sensors and then you would not have to worry about them. Of course, that won't help with driveability problems from the front O2 sensors.

In your first post, you did not give much info to go on. No year of car or indication of what particular DTC was given (there are about a dozen or more O2 codes for OBD-II cars). It makes it hard to give an informed response.

Re: 02 sensor problem, help!!!

Just because you have an O2 code doesn't necessarily mean you have a bad sensor either. It could be a number of different things.

The front sensors MUST be retained. Even if you remove the cats, you will still need the sims (that is actually why most people use the sims in the first place).
