1.7 rockers with emmission cam

I plan on gettin a cc305 and supporting valvetrain parts sometime in the next month. I really would want to go more aggressive on my cam, but I just don't want to go through the hassle of trying to beat the emission testing and all that junk.

Instead of doing 1.6 rockers, what would the 1.7 do in terms of cam behavior? I know its supposed to make the cam act bigger, but by acting bigger, does that mean it will give me more lope, and less chance of passing emissions? If its only adding more lift, and not duration, or changing the lsa, i dont see how it could hurt, other than adding some more stress to the valvetrain(which i will take care of with some better springs).

Please fill me in

More lift from the 1.7s will increase emmissions....wheather you can pass or not I dont know. I would just go with a 224/230 xe cam with 1.6rr and be done with it.

224/230 xe cam with 114 lsa you mean. thats a possibility as well. i heard its pretty hard to pass on a 112 lsa with that cam.

Not hard at all. I have the 224/230 xe with 112 lsa and I passed with flying colors. I have a '94 Camaro with a 355ci, fully P&P heads, 58mm tb, SVO 30# injectors, MSD Ditigal 6, Mac headers, Crane Cams 1.6 Gold RR, and MadZ28.com tuning and that's in California

DAMN! i guess as long as you have cats on, it should be either close, or should pass. Now I am going to strongly consider this cam again. Thanks!

Now thats what I like to hear. I wanna see your smog numbers so I can get an idea. I remember calling Thunder and they recommended the 305 and the xe cam that you have. They made it clear that it will pass smog, but with some fine tuning. Nice!

That is definalty a nice sized cam for it to be passing smog, especially with the 1.6 rockers also. and plus ill have the 112 lsa so ill have some nice lopeyness. I am glad to see that you can also get it to pass with just a mail tune.

Re: 1.7 rockers with emmission cam

As promised, here you guys go. http://jody.dltechnologies.com/z28smog_small.jpg

Only thing I did was swap out the high flow cat with the stock (probably wasn't neccesary) and change the fans to come on 205 and 210. I think what really helped out too, was the car was idling on the rollers for about 20 mins while they were doing the paperwork.
