110,000 miles, what cam
My 1994 z28 has 110,000 miles on it and I want to upgrade just to outrun my brothers 1972 mote carlo. I have bbk shorty headers and all of the other modes that you can think of, but motor is untouched. My brother's monte carlo has a 565 solid lift cam and a 4:56 ratio rearend on his 355 sbc with some very good head-work. Please help me shut his mouth about outrunning my bolt-on slo-maro.

I'm not a fan of camming a high mileage engine. What gears do you have? Nitrous would be a cheap way to shut his mouth and if run correctly won't hurt the motor. You could even stage it so he doesn't jump all over you out of the hole.

Re: 110,000 miles, what cam
This sounds like a joke almost. What cam do i need for my 110k car to beat my brothers car that we really dont know anything about. What kind of number is it putting down? et? rwhp? whats the car weigh?
At 110k your more at risk of something going wrong putting a cam in then you would be at lets say 40k. You may want to look into other routes. Or in my opinion, who cares if his car is faster than yours? There is always going to be a faster car. If you have full boltons your car is not slow. His is just faster. Your going to have some serious money into your car to beat your his. You really think if its worth it? Unless you have other plans with it. just my opinions, but who am i ?

Whatever cam you plan on using in your rebuild. I'll be camming my 100k+ motor soon and adding N2O to the mix. Good Luck.
I vote GM847 or CC306, something to build on once the motor blows and you get a 355/383.

I did the Hotcam at 140k and the Z is still going strong 10k later. I can't speak on the cam versus nitrous issue, but it is possible to do a cam swap on a high mileage LT1 and live to tell about it.

Re: 110,000 miles, what cam
Thanks guys, but nitrous is a little risky for me. I have a very good running LT1 and I like driving it occassionally, not a daily driver just on weekends for fun. It's a 6 speed and it's a blast to drive, but I want more. I've ridden in my brother's 1972 Monte Carlo and it ain't no joke. but I think that my camaro can be much faster. Even with 110,000 miles it's still a low 13 sec car, but the Monte is a high twelve street machine n/a. I need more speed, but I still like to cruise, (with my a/c on), on weekends.

If he is just running high twelves and thats all you want. You could probably get there with sticky tires. If not, sticky tires, good clutch, and a little suspension in the rear. Your 10 bolt may not work for long, but with the increased horsepower of a h/c car its probably going to give in before long anywas. So, this is my advice. If all your looking for is quarter mile times, Get some drag radials, go to the track. See what that does for ya. $200-250
