Question 160 thermo

I just purchased a 96 formula and I would like to flush the cooling system and replace the stock thermostat. I want to go with a 160 degree thermostat but I am not sure if it would help without getting it tuned for the new thermo. Will it operate at 160 without a chip or programmer? Will it cause any problems if I do change it without a chip or programmer?
thanks Zack

I plan on getting a programmer later but I just wanted to change the coolant and thermo for now without getting into any real money

you can also install a fan switch for like 20 bucks too so your fans come on earlier. . I noticed you live in Texas, fairly hot? mine never goes above the 160 mark unless I am idling for a REALLY long time and my fans come on when they normally do

I just finished doing a search on that and pulled up the installation instructions and list of what I will need to do the job and I plan on doing that next weekend when I service the cooling system. Yeah it gets a little warm here and right now the car frequently sees the 210 mark on the gauge and I don't like that.
