16x7 rim, what backspace?
I am looking at two styles of deepdish rims for my 95 Z28 convertible. I DON'T want the wheel to stick out the end of the wheelwell. Any info would be nice.
1. 16x7 with a 3 7/8" backspace
2. 16x7 with a 1 7/8" backspace
I know the first ones will fit, but I am wondering if the second ones would fit in the wheelwells. Thanks.
Mike

You are looking at the wrong size wheels. The stock wheels are 16x8" 55mm offset (6-5/8" backspace). Why would you want to go to a narrower wheel, that will not even accept the popular wide tire widths that came stock on the car?
If you have your heart set on a 16x7, a 5-1/2" backspace would put the outside edge of the wheel and tire right where your stock wheel is now. The 3-7/8" BS will move the outside edge of the wheel and tire another 1-1/2" toward the outside of the fender... the 1-7/8" BS will have them wayyyyyy outside of the fender line.
I would strongly recommend that you consider going UP in wheel width, not DOWN. The most popular size is the 17x9 (stock WS6/SS size) or 17x9.5 with offsets in the 45-55mm range. There is a popular misconception that 17" wheels will not fit on convertibles, but that is not true. They fit exactly the same as they do on the coupes.
