My car runs fine then it will just shut off. The power stays on but it will take several tries to get it to turn back on.

Checked the MAF ICM Fuel Pump and Batt terminals.

Changed the Opti 25k ago and fuel pump

Any thoughts?

When you say you checked the fuel pump, does that mean you actually monitored fuel pressure during the stall?????

 

And.... scan it for codes.

 

No and Yes. My shop scanned for codes and checked the pressure on the fuel pump but it did not give any codes and the fuel pressure was good.

 

Although, they could not get it to stall.

 

Does the secruity light come on and/or flash when you try and start it? Are there any odd things happening on the instrument panel that would indicate a problem with the ignition switch?

If it was the optical cam position sensor in the Opti, or a problem with the IC module, it would be setting codes.

 

Get a fuel pressure gauge and tape it to the windshield so you can monitor it when the engine cuts out.

You may also want to get an inline spark tester and put it in line from the coil to the distributor. The only problem will be when it stalls, you will need someone to crank it while you check the spark.

I had the same thing Fred is explaining happen. The instrument panel will go dead when you turn the key to make the starter crank the car.

The lights are on when it stalls, usually happens when I am going forward. No hard turns. Sometimes at a light but usually when the car is just driving. Nothing unusual, no security light. It is like a switch goes off.

Here is one thing. It will have to sit for a moment to restart. Maybe something, the computer maybe, needs to reset?

 

The PCM doesn't "reset" unless it loses constant power from the battery. That wire is not switched through the ignition switch.

 

Perhaps the PCM is losing power for another reason/. Maybe its bad? Possible?
