2 pc rear main crank

I'm trying to get back into a 4th gen car, and I have a few questions about the LT1's. Can I run a 2 pc rear main crank in an LT1 block? Thanks for looking, and any help you can give me.

Don't take this as a flame, but why would you want to? When a nice cast 1pc RMS crank that can supposedly hold ~600-700 hp for $230 can be had...(Scat9000)...

Re: 2 pc rear main crank

I know one of the guys on the Impala board did use a 2 piece crank and an adapter, he said he would not do it again. I asume you are looking to do this based on trying to save a buck, have you considered needing an adapter and a new flywheel or flexplate, on top of the $110 or so to have the old crank cleaned up? Much of the time the cheap road costs more by the end of the project.

Also, check the drivetrain forum, I don't know why he posted there but there's a recent thread where a guy mentions there being some kind of adapter...I asked him the same thing...

Re: 2 pc rear main crank

Thanks for the info. Yes I was just trying to save a buck. I'll have to think about a cast crank. Has anyone run one, and produced alot of power. I run Pontiac engines, and we have run cast cranks, but I'd like to run a forged crank. I was wanting to build a 383 or 396 for the least amount possible.

How much power are you looking to make? Power adder?

www.adperformance.com call him up and see what he can do for you.

I'm not sure yet how much I want to make, but I would like to run a power adder one day.

Re: 2 pc rear main crank

There's nothing wrong with using a 2 pc crank if you already have one because buying the adapter is cheaper than buying the 2 pc crank.
But to further answer your questions about the LT1, all Gen I sbc rotating parts will work as will oil pumps, pans 86 - up and cams for 86 - up.
Even the Gen I heads can be made to work by converting them to reverse cooling, not sure how much that costs but some members here have done it.
