2-series Gears?

I have a set of brand new STRANGE engineering pro-street 4.10 gears. I decided to put 3.73's in my thirdgen instead, but a buddy of mine has a '97 Z28 M6 and he's drooling on the 4.10s.

My 4.10 gears are for a 2 series carrier, as my car came with 2.73 rearend. I have a 2 series carrier I'm just going to give him in the deal, if he decides to take it. I'm told that with 4.10 ratio to fit in a 2 series carrier, the ring gear is "thicker", and that it will actually make the rearend more durable?

Curious if any of you have heard of this. The "thick ring gear" part is quoted from thunderracing.

Either way, he'll get my 4.10's and carrier cheaper then he would regular 3-series 4.10's...but just wanted your opinions on this.

Hey Brant,
The smaller series, thus thicker gears, actually do make the gears stronger. I don't believe that strengthens the housing at all though. The housing is also what breaks a lot. IMO--the extra strength will not make much difference in how much power/hard launch the car will take.

but would it be a good buy for me (i'm the guy he's talking about)

I just wanted to make sure there is no advantage that the 3series has over the 2 series, if they are equal in the end, i'll just buy them from him and give a friend some money instead of give even more money to someone i don't know
