I wouldn't think twice about it. I have a 2800 stall with the 224/230 XE cam and I feel as though I need more stall than what I have currently.l

I think the stock converter is something along the lines of a 1600 stall? I'm not exactly sure.. never really seen the specs on it.

If you planing 1/4 driving yes. I Have an A4 with cc305 (220 230 .544 .544) and its like driving a stock car in city traffic. So if youre not planing racing so stick with the stock TQ

the convertor will get you up into your power band much quicker. It is similar to launching a stick car at 3000rpm vs. taking off at idle. the car will rev much quicker with the new convertor. also, the convertor will mask any cam surge you have and keep the car from jerking in the lower rpms. if you have good tuning you may not have much surge with that size cam. i have the cc305 w/ a 2400 stall and i wish i had about a 3200 stall or even a 3500. the car drives like a stock car in town and on the highway but really screams when you lay into the throttle. it is not a necessity but it really compliments the larger cam.

IMO it is necessary to obtain drivability. Hell...with my Hotcam it was embarrassing to drive due to the lurching when coming to a stop...that's where you're gonna notice it...and your car will likely idle alot lower without a stall.

I would DEFINITELY do a converter with that cam. I have that cam and I'm running a TCI 3500. I am just about to swap it out for a 4000. I'm not saying you need a 4000, but you do need something that will not only put you into your power band but also keep you there.

You will drop a good couple tenths with a converter and be able to control your launch much easier too! It feels SOOOOOO much better with a converter.

FYI, I ran the 224/230 with the stock stall for 1 year. The only problem I had was a bit of creeping at stop lights, just had to keep on the brakes a bit more than usual. My idle is set at 850 (PCMFORLESS tuning - WELL worth the $$).

So do you HAVE to have a stall with it? No. But, obviously, to get the most out of it, a stall will help big time.
