224/230 question

I know its not optimal, and it will be changed after a couple of months but can you run a 224/230 cam on a stock motor without upgrading anything? Obviously there will eventually be a stall(3000) and appropriate valvetrain.

Please dont critisize me on the notion of doing this. I have a family that Im supporting and although I did just get a sizable raise its still hard to keep shelling out 1000's of dollars a month on rebuilding my car basically from scratch.

Re: 224/230 question

I dont think so, I had one with a stock tune and a 2800 stall 9.5" convertor and it would bearly run and just drove like crap. Get a mail order tune and it might be ok with the stock verter but i drove a hot cam car with a stock stall and it tried to keep going. I wouldnt susgest it if you dont have a stall and tune. with those it is an awesome cam for stock heads.

Re: 224/230 question

Ive been posting alot today and wasnt thinking correctly. I am getting the shortblock and tranny right around the same time so I guess my main concern was about the stock valvetrain working with the cam until I get the money to complete the setup. I will most likely swing for the converter since that way I wont have to pull the transmission again to put it on.

Anyways thanks for all the input.

Re: 224/230 question

No don't get a cam and not upgrade the rockers and springs... unless you want to do that rebuild REALLY early.

For some reason there is never enough money and time to do it right the first time but there is always enough to do it a the second time.
