224/230 worth the extra money over hotcam on stock heads?
Hey guys I wanted the Hot cam kit for a long time. But now I am thinking about getting the 224/230 Kit. I am going to have stock heads for a long time, so I am wondering if i am going to make that much more power with the 224/230 over the hot cam kit. I just saw a post where a guy made 350 rwhp with the hot cam. I know that is a little higher than normal. But how much more with a good tune should i expect out of the 224/230. What would you guys go with?
thanks

I will let you know in about one month how good the 224/230 is. I was like you and really thought the hotcam was what I wanted. Now I own the XE cam that came in a kit from cmotorsports, am in the middle of porting/polishing some LT4 heads, and can't wait to get it all together.

if i was you i would go with the 224/236 on a 112 lsa over the 224/230. the stock lt1 castings have pretty weak exhaust ports, and imho the ratio of i/e is a better match with the larger exhuast port. it is a nitrous cam but have if you have it gound on a 112 lsa it will be better suited to n/a applications and slightly lopier. the cam is really too big for stock heads IMHO but if you want the cammed sound its about the best you can do for power across the rpm range, and theres nothing wrong with a cam that will do you proud after you get heads, and yes you'll want them

DEFENETLY talk to combination motorosports (http://www.cmotorsports.com/). They have an awesome package and will help you out a lot.

well since emissions are in this equation why not have the 224/230 ground on a 114 lsa to cut overlap and hydrocarbons or just go with the cc305, another option might be the slp cam thats got a 224* intake lobe.

I wonder if a 224/236 ground on a 114lsa would pass ....decisions ,decisions.

well since the xe lobes cut overlap so much then why wouldnt the 224/236 114lsa be able to pass then? i know its got more duration but with it having such severe ramp rates wouldnt it turn out the same as a cc305 then? and if it still wouldnt pass why not do a 224/230 on a 114 lsa. correct me if i'm wrong here (very likely) but if the overlap was the same between the two cams wouldnt they spit out similar emissions? and if the xe cam had the lsa stretched out to 114 then wouldnt it maybe burn cleaner than the magnum cam despite the increase in duration?
