XE236/242 cam installation soon...last minute tips.

Just got back from deployment about 2.5 weeks ago, and what better way to spend my hard earned money than modding out my car.

Went to racenet.net and got their cam package:
Comp Cams 236/242 .521/.540@.05
Comp Cams Self Aligning 1.6 Pro Magnum Rocker Arms
Comp Cams 987-16 Dual Valve Springs
Comp Cams 740-16 Valve Spring Retainers
Comp Cams 10 Degree Super Locks
Comp Cams High Energy Hydraulic Roller Lifters LT1
Comp Cams Valve Spring Seats
Comp Cams Hardened Pushrods
New GM Timing Chain
Fel-Pro Intake Gasket Set
Fel-Pro Timing Cover Set

Ported/polised heads w/matched intake

-True dual exhaust setup exiting at the side before the rear wheels.

-30# injectors and a 255L/hr in tank fuel pump.

Pending: SLP 2600 (str 1.90) converter and LT1 edit.

Also, I plan to upgrade my ignition and also, what types of plugs should I run with. I dont plan to change my CR too much... will .05 gap still work?

I'm hoping to be around 390rwhp when all is said and done... been rackign my brain to make sure I've gotten everything I need. If anyone has input, please, inform me..especially if you have a similar setup.

Thanks for the info so far, I'm going to document the entire process for future 'journeymen'

Welcome back

I been told I should make around 380 hp with my mods. Getting pretty much identical head setup you got from Llyod(nighttrain66) along with larger valves and porting. That cam you got is going to lope like a ****. I didn't want to go that big because the TC has to wait until who knows when. I have read some pretty negitive stuff about racenet on this board though. Seems they are bad about getting people their stuff in a relative short time frame. Are you going to run a stock LT1 timing chain with that setup? May be pushing it. I would go with an ED if I was you but that requires the 95+ conversion. Good luck with the setup. I bet it's going to be awesome.

Hmm, I hope that I have good luck with Racenet...talked to them a couple of times and they seem very professional. *crosses fingers*

As for the timing chain, the kit comes with and upgraded timing chain, so it should hold for the most part.

Thanks for the info, will post vids/pics/info during and when its done...hopefully before the end of the month.

Well, too late now, I guess I gotta hope for the best with them.

As for a rev kit, I dont plan on taking much of 6k, I thought rev kits were recommended at 6.4-6.5k + rpms??

With the cam you picked, your going to see RPM like that yes. You dont need the REV kit though, I ran higher RPM than that but I used non SA rockers + guideplates.

You can get the valve springs from Cmotorsports.
They can handle upto .600 lift and can fit stock heads without any machining. My friend has them on his car (he has the 224/236 cam and it works great). Seth at cmotorsports told me that they have spun motors with almost .600 lift above 6700rpms many times with no sweat. The are only like 90 bucks and come with retainers too.

Hope that helps,
Claude
