2k to spend...select a cam for my bolt on TA

I am not trying to go crazy on my car but I want it to be quicker than it is and sound much better....Currently the car has pacesetter long tubes, true duals,SLP fender intake, circle d 3600 stall, 373 gears, racetronix 255 fuel pump, 3 point sub frames, LCA, panhard, MT drag radials, 160 thermostat, poly motor and trans mounts, and an old mail order tune b4 the gears/stall (currently bouncing off rev limiter in racing situation)

Soooo i want a cam, i decided not to go all out and get the LE2 package....I want to spend roughly 2k including a couple hundred for installation (friend is a mechanic and will hook me up with install discount)

I dont know what cam go for, or should i stick with lloyd elliot and get a custom cam? I was thinking a timing chain, mezier electric water pump, some better rockers, and......what else? again trying to stick around a 2k budget, or push it to $2500, i got quoted roughly 600ish to install.

I will also send out the computer to pcm4less to get a new tune...so shoot some ideas my way, talking custom cam, and parts i should get while doing this project, i would love to be at low 12s after all this.

Advanced induction. They will grind you a nice billet camshaft to fit your application as well as set you up with all the valve train components. That would run right around $1500.

Cc503. Look for my thread I have an acceleration video and an idle rev. Good street manners. Good vacuum and can still run power brakes.

AI 226/234. There are guys FLYING with that grind. I like the AI kit too - it includes everything you need and it's all MATCHED, so there's no guessing on parts.

Oh sure you could get the heads and cam for $2k, but that doesn't leave anything left over for supplemental mods, like rockers, pushrods, timing chain, tuning, etc., all of which are vital for a successful install. You'd be surprised at how much extra you'd need!

exactly my point, ive gone against working the heads for now...just wanna slip a cam in there and have a little more fun with the car for a while. These parts add up quickly, thats why I am thinking a cam, and just the basic parts that goes with it.

Anyone have any 1/4 times with the 503 cam and similar mods/no head porting? Or dyno numbers?

Re: 2k to spend...select a cam for my bolt on TA

I don't have any 1/4 mile times yet, but I baselined my car at Farmington before I got started on my mods. The best I could do was 8.9@80mph. The fastest the car had ever been in the 1/8th, up to that point, was 82.95mph. I feel the 80mph speed was due to weak valve springs(just over 100k miles). With that...I started modding....

Re: 2k to spend...select a cam for my bolt on TA

Surely looking for better numbers than that. Lacking the suspension and rear is really holding back that cams potential. I have been following this thread also for the 503cam and 226/234 AI cam results. My 145,000 stock engine w/exhaust manifolds is a consistent 8.34-8.35, 1/8th mile racer. Lets see some real numbers from those cams for the OP.

Video came from youtube--I'm not affilliated with it in no way. It was Joelius(something) I have seen his sceen name on here

Looks like VERY impressive Dyno numbers from lightly touched heads, 11.4 compression, and the AI cam. I couldn't find good time runs, but with those numbers mid. 11's easy with a correctly set-up car.
