3.4 is not enough :-)

looking to buy a crate lt1, but cannot find them anywhere....is the zz4 comparable? and is there anything out there that is more powerful for cheaper....and where to find these? i've been to pace parts, edelbrock, speedy automotive....i can find ls1 crates but never the lt1.

next question would be.....what all do i need to do for the swap? planned on finding a lt1 rear end on ebay, or even an ls1 rear end....prolly need different motor mounts....getting different opinions on new fuel pump or not.....tranny? ive got the 4l60e right now...but i've heard it'll need a build up...and hell i'd rather just buy a brand new one instead...as far as i know the tranny has all 119k miles on it....most likely need some headers and a new y pipe? i've already go the SS exhaust on it with a catco hi flow cat....

a list of everything i'd need would be great....i wanna have absolutely everything before i even start....not a big fan of having to run out and order something during the middle of a project

thanks for any info....

You will need a lot of stuff to do the swap, things like the a new rear are not entirely necessary but are good. I am leaving my stock 323 in place and using a zexel lsd. I am also retaining the v6 gauge cluster (which the speedo and tach will be slightly off), and drum brakes but i did upgrade to ls1 brakes up front. You are better off buying a complete lt1 from a place like speed automotive or something like that. Also, the 4l60e in the v6 is different than the v8. Here is what you will need:

Complete lt1 with computer, harness, tranny, accessories
K-frame with motormounts
driveshaft
plastic fuel lines
gauge cluster
cooling fans
whole new exhaust
and i know there is some other stuff but can't think of it now

i got a friend, whose got a friend who has a shop....so we're all gonna do it cuz hell i wanna learn something about this stuff....i hate paying mechanics....when if i can do it myself.....and learn something...that's fun for me....

and if i wanted a decent Z...i'd be spending an extra $5k over the price of a swap....not really worth it to me...

but thanks for the info....

and i don't really need to go true dual setup...i can get by with one cat and one muffler right?

If you are smart you will get a complete lt1 instead of a crate motor. Call www.speedautomotive.com and also Trans Am Creations, don't have their addy, do a google search and it will come up. Last year they had a conversion package with everything. You can just drop out the entire drivetrain by unbolting the kmember and slide the new one in. Not that much trouble really. Do a search and you will find a lot of info.

I have a friend that did this swap. He bought all the stuff from a member on the board that rolled his car.

He got the motor, transmission, rear end, drive shaft, console, brakes, all suspension, guage cluster, wiring harness, radiator, etc, etc....His car now is basically a Formula besides the badges, and the tail lights

There is a lot of work and money that will go into this kinda of swap. I would suggest that you just buy a good used LT1 car if that is what you want, but if you want to do it, I would just find a complete totalled LT1 car and have it in your backyard to do the swap

He showed me the pics from the install and it isn't one for the faint of heart, or CASH

Lastly if this is what you decide to do, I would suggest a GM Shop Manual...The one that is about 4 1/2 " thick, and expensive. The friend that did this said that was one of his biggest helps during the whole ordeal.

I thought about the swap but ended up buying a completely bone stock Z with onl 54k original mile sfor under 7K and selling my V6 for 5K. So, the total for the swap and getting T-Tops cost me 2k

Only downfall I can say abotu getting the Z, is the type of Z you cna get for $5k, gonna be higher mileage and may have problems I would do the swap, but I woudl do it where I rebuilt and built up the lt1 before I put it in. I woudl research a way for 450 streetable hp.

Thats why I would do the swa besided my car only weghs 3200 lbs, z28s are heavy, and it ain't all the motor.

Depends on how much you shop around. Like I said, my z has 54k original miles and was a one owner car. In fact it still had the stock stereo. Not a thing wrong with it othre than what I cause

What makes the Z28s so much more heavy besides the LT1?

Yeah mustangeater? They are almost exactly the same? I cant think of anything else other than the motor that would cause a difference in weight.
