306 cam on my 97 lt1?
sorry for the cam question, i've searched and read every damn post on this website and think this will work best for me...
car is a
97 lt1 6 speed, currently just bolt ons with jet hot lts and borla
most likely not porting my heads ( i know i should )
car needs to be drivin every day
i plan on cam, 1.6 rr's and the lt4 timing set.
would the cc 306 cam be the best choice for me,,or the 224/230? any other suggestions,,i think the hotcam will be a little too small.
thanks

i am at the same place you are, 97 with 80k miles just a few boltons looking for a good strong cam to put me in the 12's
I have read just a little bit but i am also looking really hard at the cc306 but i heard that it makes must of it HP up top and that i will have to rev to like 6500 or something with it. I think with the XEcam it makes more power mid range,
I am going to get what ever one will raise my 1/4 mi times the most!

I have a 503 (224/230) in my car (not an F-body, sorry) and am very happy with it. I have brought it up to 6000 RPM so far, and was impressed with the pull there, I have a feeling I might shift it around 6200 or 6300 at the track.
Everything else right, I think I should be very low 13s (could sneak some very high 12s), cause, well, my G-body is heavier that a F-body, and I have no doubt it would go in the 12s with a properly setup camaro.

From what I've seen, people with the 306 pull great MPH, but their ET never seems to match up like it should. I'm in the same boat as you guys, and it looks like I'll be going with the 224/230 cam. I'd rather pull faster times than higher MPH. Also, I don't want to have to rev to 6500 rpms or higher on my stock bottom end to make my power. This is a highly debated topic, so it should get quite a few replies.
