383 first start tune question

My current tune was for my stock head and fuel injector but big cammed road race motor LT1 355. It's now a 383 with a mild LE1 port job meant for the street. The port job, the additional cubes, going from aluminum to billet flywheel, and 36lb injectors are the only real changes as the cam specs are almost identical. Question is can I do a start up, and drive it around the driveway to get it on the trailer to take to the tuner on the old tune without hurting something? Or even just do a mild 20 min break in at 2000 rpm (if theres a big prob id rather find it now than after i load it up and drive an hour away and pay the tuner)? Thanks-

Appears the 36 #/Hr injectors replaced the stock 24 #/Hr injectors. If so you'll be pouring 50% extra fuel into the cylinders. Then there's the cold start enrichment pouring in more fuel. Using the long term fuel trims, assuming the PCM will even enter closed loop, the most the long terms can subtract is 15%. The fact the displacement has increase almost 8% requires proportionally more fuel, so that's a plus. But it's unlikely to even reach the point of going closed loop, so you can’t even count on the fuel trims subtracting fuel.

Bottom line is you are going to flood the cylinders, fuel may bypass the rings and dilute the oil. Could it actually reach hydrolock? Maybe I'm just overreacting.

Can you put the stock injectors back in? That would solve the main problem.

Or, any way to get a trailer with a winch? When I sold my Formula, it had been sitting so long unstarted I told the buyer not to start it. He had a trailer with a winch, a helper, and his fiance’. So they pushed the car, I steered it.. Rolled the car down the 80-ft sloped driveway backwards into the street, backed/steered it opposite to the trailer on the curb, and his fiance’ pulled the car up on the trailer with the winch.

"You're an idiot" would have sufficed... thanks, I'll get it on the trailer.

Re: 383 first start tune question

minimally if the stock injectors were put back in, you could start it and get it on a trailer

With that said, any new motor should be started with a tune appropriate for that motor and run in for 20 min at 2k rpm, yes even for full hydraulic roller cam, as you want everything to bed and the 2k rpm keeps oil pressure up.

So yeah just winch it on a trailer so you don't short start a new motor and wash the cylinders down with gas.

if you have not, consider a 255 LPH fuel pump for your setup.
