383..What soild roller cam to use?

I am in the process of building my 383. I plan on running a solid roller cam in it. I have the lifters Crane 11522 and comp cams, 954 comp cam springs, 1.6 RR, with a set of LLoyd Elloit heads. The block is a LT1 with forged flat top pistions, stock rods that have been shot pinned and a noduler iron 400 crank..Making a 10.75:1. comp ratio. My question is what cam do I need to be running??? It isNT a everyday driver as I have another car I can drive. It is basicly and weekend and track car. I searched and didnt really find much. Also have a set of hooker LT, 2.5 inch true duals, T56, Moser 12 bolt with 4.11. I dont what if you need to know anything else. But help me out here.

Thanks
Matt

Re: 383..What soild roller cam to use?

I would ask Lloyd Elliot. Last I heard he was getting custom grind cams from Joe Overton. Those two guys would be by far the best people to ask since he is doing your heads.
I had Joe do my heads, intake and solid roller cam

I'm not sure about your choice of rods. For close to the same amount of money you could probably get some Eagle 4340 I beams. I guess it depends on how big a cam you go with and how high you spin it.
Good luck

I agree on the rods... a 4340 Scat I beam would be a good cheap upgrade that will handle what you are looking at and be better by ten fold in terms of strength.

"I have the lifters Crane 11522 and comp cams, 954 comp cam springs, 1.6 RR, with a set of LLoyd Elloit heads."

First ditch those lifters, there is a big list of guys who can tell you the $200 you save now on those lifters compared with the price of a broken lifter diggin up their lifter bore because it failed is not worth it.

The springs if they are new are good for the right cam, the cam cannot be too aggressive or have too much lift with 954's.

The 1.6 rockers are ok if you have 7/16 studs. If they are Pro Mags a stud girdle is the best way to go, while a set of Hi Tech Stainless rockers is even better.

Going to LLoyd for the cam is not a bad idea, or work with a cam designer.

Re: 383..What soild roller cam to use?

Well I called comp cams today and talked to them at length about what cam I should use. They rec a custom ground 236 In 242 exh with a 602 in and a 608 exh on a 112 LSA @50 and built in 4* advance. Is this gonna be ok? As far as rods and lifters I am BROKE..After sending my heads to llyod and then getting them back and having to go get them done again for more $ i am out. This car is going to be a weekend and track car

If you are broke now wait until you bust a lifter roller and have to rebuild it,or brake a rod and have to replace it.That will make you 2x broke.

Re: 383..What soild roller cam to use?

If it is just a weekend and daily driver, i would go more aggressive on the cam. I am running a similar cam in my daily driven 355. Just my oppinion but i would go bigger on the cam. Of course you may need some more money in your rotating assembly to turn a more aggressive cam to its full potential (just depends on what cam you go with). Just my .02

SSstrokerace,

Are you talking about just that particular crane lifter?
Thunder racing recommended some crane solid roller lifters to me but they are not that part number.
I've allready bought them but it sounds like I should return them????

Thanks
