4.10 gear ratio

4.10 gear ratio
I want to put a new gear ratio in my car. I have the stock 3.42 gear with a 6 speed. I want more take off speed. What is the ups and downs to changing the gear. Will this affect my speedometer or anything. Or would it be better if I changed my gear to a 3.73 or 3.90. A friend of mine told me I would not notice much difference going from a 3.42 to a 3.73. He told me to change it to a 4.10. Will a 4.10 gear be horrible on the highway? Just some concernse before I do it.

It will change your speedo unless you get your PCM reprogrammed.
If you do A LOT of highway driving then 4.10's might be a little much. If you already have traction problems in 1st gear, then 4.10's may be too much also.
A lot of people like the 4.10's, but for a daily driver, it's too much for me. I might go 3.73's, but that's it.
I'm pretty conservative though with that kind of stuff because 60%+ of my driving is 65 mph+
At WOT, lower rear gears don't help much past about 37 mph.

I think you can get it done for $75 from www.madz28.com plus a few other goodies. Look here: www.madz28.com He goes by madwolf on this site and his name is Ion. He just did mine last week, but for other reasons.
