4:10 gears whinning

I have a 93 z28 w/ 4:10 gears in the rear. They were recently installed but they whine. I have been told that it's normal to whine, and I've also been told that it's not. What's the real deal?? I can live with it, but it's annoying.

A lot of gear complaints can be traced back to the install. Higher ratio gears are more likely to whine and unless it's excessive doesn't necessarily mean that the gears are gonna blow up on you. Also, if you have Richmond gears they are notorious for being noisy while the GM/Motive gears are a lot easier to install quiet. I'd say if you are running Motive gears, have good fluid, slowly broke them in, and they whine than whomever installed them did a shoddy job.

What gears and how loud is it? Acceleration or Deceleration?

When you hold the gas it whines. Frequency depends on accel. Once you release the pedal, the whinning stops.
