450+ rwhp/tq. with $7000 + my current mods - is it possible?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if 450rwhp would be possible considering my current mods and an additional $7,000 in other mods? I'm thinking along the lines of:

-Rebuilt trans
-built bottom end (plan to rev to 7k rpm or so) on stock displacement
-aftermarket ignition setup (maybe LTCC?)
-AFR hydra-rev kit
-cc306
-Advanced Induction heads (or some other major porting)
-chromoly pushrods
-comp double valve springs
-1.6 or 1.7 rockers (might adjust cam accordingly depending on which i choose)
-11:1 comp ratio (always run 93 octane gas)
-58mm throttle body (bypassed)
-12 bolt strange with 3.42's or 3.73's
-spohn torque arm
-panhard rod
-LCA's and reloc. brackets

think its possible?

opinions?

peace

i doubt you will hit 450rwhp with the LT1 casting heads (even though phil is a great porter) on a stock cubic inch bottom end.

you might get close with ported lt4 heads / intake.

definetly achievable with AFR ported heads.

oh, and custom grind cam , matched to your heads flow numbers (ask phil to do it) will have a MUCH better chance of getting there than the 306.

From what i've seen on the forums and from freinds, most people are at or near 400rwhp with similar setups, although most are 383's.

Let us know how you do though
I think anything is posible if ya got the $$$

Good Luck Mike

I have a friend that has a 385 c.i. running AFR heads (not sure which model) I think a CC306 (not 100% positive though), LTs, etc etc, 445 rwhp.

With all that you won't see 450 but you'll have a hell of a setup. If your going forged 355 just spray it.....then you could hit 600.

N/A there is pertty much no way u are going to make that kind of power on ur budget.

for that money, i would rebuild the motor to a 355 with some forged pistons, polish the beams on the stock rods, rebalance the stock crank.

Then, get a nice set of ported heads and a decent cam (the 306 i guess, if u want) and like u said some small valvetrain work

Then spray it with a good 150-200 shot.

A trans rebuild or rear end build up along with some suspension work would be a good way to spend the extra $$$$$.

There's no replacement for displacement. If your going for big HP, I believe you are going to have to go 396, aggressive cam, A-Market heads,
Lts, cut-outs before the cats, bigger injectors,58 MM TB and a good tune. Just how streetable, I wouldn't know. JMHO.

uh, yes he could defintly hit the power he wants, hed just have to keep the stock bottom end.

ported AFR LT4s.....$3000
ported LT4 intake/tb.....$400
custom grind cam.....$300
valvetrain (rr;s, springs etc)....$500
hyrdarevkit............$250
bigger injectors.......$300
bigger fuel pump....$200

should be 450rwhp, and thats $5000....then minus $500 selling your stock heads/intake and other parts.

that hits the power level he wants......and enough $ left over to buy a 12 bolt.

if he rebuilt the bottom end, it would be even more power.

Just my opinion, but with that much power, he's not going to have a bottom end.

Just saying that you could probably achieve big numbers with "stuff" but I believe reliability would certainly be a factor.

I wouldn't even put that much HP on a 2-bolt.
Seems like it would be a worth while effort to go with bigger displacement, bullet proof bottom end. Matched heads and cam, good solid valve train, incl. tit retainers.

I guess, I'd sooner aim for 500 RWHP and settle for less, than to aim for 450 and wind up with less and be dissappointed with spending all that money on something that might go "poof" after a couple of runs.JMHO

If you're gonna go built bottom end, why would you go stock cubes?

If your building your bottom end, why not throw a 3.75 stroke crank in there. You can get a Scat 9000 series cast crank for under $300 that will easily handle 450-500 rwhp and you won't need to rev to the moon. Combined with a good set of ported stock castings and matched cam you should reach your goal. You'll have more torque down low over your 355cid and this equals more fun on the street.
