48MM TB with cc503 and ported heads?

My engine is finally coming back together! Thanks for all the help along the way. Its almost time to put the heads and intake back on but i've been stuck on whether i "need" to upgrade the throttle body to something large.

stock bottom end, 30lbs injectors, cc503 cam, ported stock castings and 1.6 pro mags.. Am i hurting the engine much by staying with the stock tb ?

I'm sure it isn't going to bottle neck the motor but gains can be had from an aftermarket one

the stocker should be adequate for your motor

For now im just trying to get it back together and enjoy the car. I can always upgrade to a larger TB later right? This will be my daily driver so im not too concerned with leaving 5-10HP no the table..

As long as it wont run badly.. im happy.

It will run just fine with the 48mm TB.

Stock TB will work fine. You may have to adjust the idle (and TPS along with it), since bigger heads like more air.

Its not going to run any better or worse with whatever TB you put on it. Unless its mismatched. A 52,54,58 will give you a small hp gain. I would pick one up used when you have some extra money.

if you do go aftermarket, go 58mm no reason to leave room on the table for improvement and possibly have to buy the same parts twice later down the road

Sounds like your running almost the same engine as me, except mine is in an 84' Silverado, can't wait to get mine back together too. Oh and when you do get a 58mm TB pick up a ported intake also thats been opened up to match. GL with the rebuild

You won't have any drivability issues but you'd deff pick up a few ponies from swapping it out for a 52/58mm

you don't really need a bigger tb.. its if anything possibly a 10hp gain. i have a stocker on the lt4 engine i put in my trans am with a xfi 280 cam. runs fine. i only have a 52mm on my corvette, its a 383 with le3 lt4 heads and a huge cam..

A 54mm was my last mod in my sig. Didn't "noticed" any improvement on the butt dyno.

A stock TB can support up to about 400hp and a 52mm up to about 475hp. You can still benifit from a bigger TB but it's not something you can't do without.
