58mm throttle body. BBK or Edelbrock.

Re: 58mm throttle body. BBK or Edelbrock.
Personally I don't think they are worth the money. Aftermarket MAF Sensors either! I have had them on 2 LT1's a 1994 Firebird, and 1995 Camaro Z-28, I didn't see any modest gain in HP as claimed. My opinion, I would stay stock, it will run and shift better. I have another 1994 Formula M6 currently and will not change the throttle body or MAF. I would much rather spend the money on exhaust and headers. Just my 2 cents...I learned from experience and $1300.00 on 2 vehicle mods that were worthless!

well u have to have a combo of bolt ons in order to see any gains i.e LT headers, cat back, intake, possibly even a light tune. sorry budyy i dont agree with u on this one. I do agree however on the MAF.....

You already have a 52mmTB in your sig, thats plenty of TB for your setup.
With fully ported heads and intake, and .575+ lift cam, then you might need a bigger TB, but until then, you are fine.

Re: 58mm throttle body. BBK or Edelbrock.
When we were tuning my setup on the engine dyno, we were able to make 500 flywheelHP on a 58mm TB with the blades only 77% open. Opening the blades further did not increase air flow, because the TB was not the limiting factor in the setup. If you calculate it out, the engine could have made the same flywheel HP with a 52mm TB, 100% open.
Just a thought.

I should have mentioned I have LE2 heads and LE1.5 cam going in. I just got my ported intake back from Lloyd too.
So do you guys think my 52mm is big enough or would you go to the 58mm now that you know the rest of the story.?

Its a toss-up... Lloyd recommends the 52mm for the LE1 and 58mm for the LE2. Seems like your combo would be closer to the 58mm recommendation.

Re: 58mm throttle body. BBK or Edelbrock.
I was fortunante enough to be able to try all of the various sizes before buying one. The 58mm did what Fred indicated in the previous post, the max hp came on with less throttle, so it produces more hp eariler or with a lighter foot you might say, and throttle response was crisper since more air quicker, so I went with the 58mm.

Re: 58mm throttle body. BBK or Edelbrock.
Do a search of my user id and you'll find several posts I started about BBK and the Holley TB...the IAC ports are made differently from the stocker and caused my car to have a very inconsistant idle....after a few mods to the Holley I have it working beautifully now...there's a long post of what I did..
For some dam reason the BBK nor the Holley will return the blades back to 0% TPS once the car is running or coasting at >30 mph...I fixed it by drilling a new archor hole for the reurn spring and tightening it up by 1/2 a turn.
