Re: 85 Mm Maf

I'm interested in hearing this too.. I've heard about people trying c5/ls1 maf, but haven't heard anything about lt1/lt4 vette maf...

Re: 85 Mm Maf

i dont know if the lt4 maf gave a different gm/s reading than the lit1 did. i have read many posts about the c5, z06, ls1, and others that dont work correctly. the maf is calibrated to deliver a certain signal to the pcm that represents airflow. as long as the airflow/signal table is the same on the lt4 vette as it is on the lt1 it will work fine.

Re: 85 Mm Maf

The MAF is a SENSOR and as such needs do nothing more than send accurate info to the pcm without restricting air flow. The stocker fits the bill perfectly till well into heads/cam/stroker territory. Not to mention the Granatelli specifically is known to cause drivability issues when combined with real mods. In some instances it can give a TEMPORARY gain by leaning out the overly rich factory tuning but the pcm will see this via the O2s and correct for it. If you instead do it right and have the pcm reprogrammed for the right AFR and timing you will gain a lot more and it will be permanent not to mention a fraction the cost of that MAF new.

Tuning can also reset the pcm fan temp controls and tweak the tranny shift points and lockup as well as even firmness and again cost less than the MAF. So even if the MAF resulted in permanent gains it would still be a bad mod.

Dwayne, if the PCM is able to 'see' an overly lean/rich condition via the O2 sensors, and react to them, it (any AFR other than stoichiometric 14.65) does not exist to begin with. This is because there can be no overly lean/rich condition in closed loop operation, when information O2s send to the PCM is actually referenced/utilized, without manipulation of PCM code or of the voltage O2s send.

Re: 85 Mm Maf

It will try to lean things out across the board the pcm will instantly correct that at part throttle with short term trims, so it will not truely exist till you enter PE mode, once it learns the short term differences into long term is when the pcm will begin to add fuel to the PE tables and the gain goes away.

Re: 85 Mm Maf

i have also read a few posts with guys making some decent horsepower with the stock maf. i would guess your fine on the stocker for quite a few mods before you need to get a bigger maf. IMHO
