'93 T/A Fuel Problem
My '93 T/A suddenly has a strong odor of gas. Opening the gas filler cap releases a big pressure (not normal). Putting the cap back tight for 2 seconds instantly builds this pressure up again. When the cap is loosened the fuel pump makes a little whine sound for a couple seconds and then gets quiet again. The car runs fine with the cap tight, or slightly cracked open, and no liquid leaks. What do I look for?...fuel pump...pressure regulator (which I've never had to mess with and know little about)...or what? Is is okay to drive the car a short distance until I can figure this thing out (fuel cap tight...or slightly open?)...thanks for any help.

Re: '93 T/A Fuel Problem
The increase in pressure at the fuel filler cap was new to this car...it blew the cap out of my hand the first time I was checking for the cause of the gas fumes. It was far more than the release of pressure that was normal in the past. I wound up replacing the pressure control valve back near the charcoal canister as it seemed sluggish when tested. The new valve seems to have put the pressure back at the normal level, and the gas fumes smell is now gone. Thanks for the help on this.

Re: '93 T/A Fuel Problem
My 93 Z had the same problem and tried the same things mentioned here by board members. finaly, much later I found it was the "O" ring around the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump is installed.
Hope this helps.
