94Z header install help
ill be workin on my header install the next few days before work and wanted ask a few questions and start a thread for future ones. first im doing pacesetter long tubes and y pipe, non emisions. i already have the car on stands and have the air pump out. ill be working more tomorrow. i see some say you have to take off the starter and steering knuckle, and some say you dont have to but you have to unbolt the motor mounts and lean the engine. which way should i do?

I actually left the starter on, on my car it wasnt a clearance issue. I have a 95Z and installed the same headers and the clearance issue I had was against the firewall. But yes take off the steering knuckle, motor oil dipstick, and if the starter is an issue than remove it, mine wasnt tho. Just see what works.

When I installed mine I installed the passenger side from the top. I removed the starter, alternator, pass. side valve cover, and leaned the motor. It wasn't too bad to do. I installed the drivers side from the bottom. I had to remove the steering knuckle and the coolent temp sensor so that the header could be slid into place. Good luck with your install.

Passenger side I removed starter (which I don't think was absolutely necessary, but I did anyway) and the valvecover, it went on in less than 5 minutes. Driver's side was a totally different story. Lots of cramming and wiggling around, top and bottom, took valve cover and back two rocker arms off... no help.
Easiest solution was to remove the 3 bolts that bolt the block to the mount, and jack the motor up, a few inches and it popped right in.

Mine went in really easy from the bottom, but I have a tubular k-member too which makes things easier. Did anyone else have any issues with the passenger side motor mount touching the header tube? Mine had a couple thousands clearance which wasn't enough in my book so I ground it down a little. Just wondering if mine was an isolated incident.

I had to grind the steering column shaft a tad to clearance a tube on mine.
My suggestion is to just remove all the stuff you can that may get in the way, theyre all very very easy to put back after. Leaving things in the way just makes it harder to work on the car and leads to mistakes later because your trying to work around them, cant see ... etc.
