95 LT1 cutting out cruising
I have a 95 Trans am with the lt1, 4l60e trans. A while back it started cutting out while cruising almost like it's running out of fuel and it randomly does it. I may drive it 200 miles with no problem other times i may drive it 50 miles. It'll run like a champ until it starts cutting out then it'll just keep cutting out until I turn it off and let it cool down or If I go full throttle while it's cutting out it will quit cutting out as long as your at full throttle.
New Parts:
Optispark replaced about 1000mi ago
Plugs and wires
Water pump
Alternator (all wires are tight)
All new gaskets in throttle body
Maf sensor cleaned

Re: 95 LT1 cutting out cruising
Are there any codes? The absolute first thing to do is do a fuel pressure check. When the car cuts out again, turn the car off but don't wait for the car to cool down, and use a rubber mallet and hit the gas tank a few times from under the car.If the car starts right up again then it could be the fuel pump.If you have a laptop download GaryDoug 939495 scan tool. You will need a harness.Once you run a scan you can post it here and find some answers.Hope this helps.

Pull the codes. Could be heat soak of the ICM or the optical module in the Opti.

Heat soak of fuel pump is also possible.

No codes, checked the fuel pressure and its right where it needs to be. And even when the car starts cutting out it will still idle smooth and start right up. It only cuts out when cruising at partial throttle. Doesnt cut out at full throttle or idle.

Re: 95 LT1 cutting out cruising
Since nobody else chimed in the past day maybe these things may help.
After market alarm.
Bad or worn key.
Bad key ignition cylinder.
Too much stuff on the key chain(the weight of the keys with all the stuff we put on them can affect something)
There have been numerous posts of defective optisparks even on u-tube.
I blew up an accel coil 10 minutes after I put it on going up a freeway ramp here in L.A.Now that was fun.I've read and saw on u-tube the accel opti's go south usually around 5k or so.
If you have a spare key I would try though first.
A bad connection in the plug harness to the opti spark(they melt)
A bad connection to the water temp sensor in the waterpump.
Even relays coming loose in the fuse box.
These old wires and hoses can get brittle and intermittently break contact especially under heat.
There is a way you can scan the problem while you are driving then when it does happen the scanner should pick up something.Hope this helps.
