Ohk guy's, I'm new to this forum or any forum for that matter. My issue is that my 95 z28 has a crank no start problem, i have spark and injector pulse. I am currently a student at Automotive Training Center in Exton, Pa. i have replaced the opti unit went out approx 60 miles after replacing injectors and loading one of soloman's tunes into my car. i also found after replacing the opti that my icm was bad so i replaced that also, i cant think of anything that would cause my car not to start and im extremely frusterated any info would be amazing now that we have wonderful weather here i just wana drive my t-top Z. Thanks again for any future info.

 

When did it start? Was it after replacing and working on the car, or out of the blue? Since you have so many new parts, it will be hard to say.

 

Try holding the gas to the floor and see if it will start. Don't pump it, just hold it to the floor and my guess is that it will probably start up. If it does then your problem is likely the coolant temp sensor in the water pump.

 

well the issue started prior to anything being replaced it drove fine, then died. i tested everything i could before i condemed the optispark, i found the opti was bad and replaced it got fuel injector pulse but no spark so i checked the icm and found that it was not opening the circuit to fire the coil, replaced it now i have spark and injector pulse but no start, i have tried to hold the pedal to the floor and crank and i have removed the injector fuses also to be sure that they dont fire. however i still have a crank no start and i trust my work installing the parts and trouble shooting im just out of ideas of what to trouble shoot without removing everything and checking by base timing again just to double check myself but i beleive it is rite bc it went on too easy to be wrong.... thanks guys i appreciate the help

hey guys, i cant stress how thankful i am for your help however it was all my doing i installed the distributor wrong. I cant say how stupid i feel for it but it should start now as soon as i get a new water pump since mine developed a leak at the weep hole during all of this so in the event that anyone knows a trick for fixing that leak please let me know asap bc i will have to order one thanks again.

 

Ok I know this is gonna sound stupid but you may not have aligned the drive spline for the Opti up correctly. I have seen worn ones fit without the keyway in the right spot. This will definatly cause the problem your describing.

 

You're not the first to have trouble getting the Optispark installed right and I dare say you won't be the last.

 

The OP has a 95, like you. No splined shaft. Problem would have been cam dowel in the wrong hole.

 

Thanks Injun I didnt know that. I've only changed the Opti on 2 different 93's. I totally forgot about the different opti on the later cars. Good catch.
