According to the book a weak spark is the same as a no spark. I had that issue and after checking everything else found that I needed a new cap and rotor which was 30,000 miles ago. to find 0 lash for the rockers start on the base of the cam and raise the push rod up and down while tightening the rocker arm till you just get no up and down motion and then tighten down an additional 1/2 turn and you should be fine.

Ok so I adjusted the valves and now it runs but it sounds like the end of the goddamn world. The exhaust is open where the cat used to be but I have no idea what it is. Hoping it's just a miss fire as the service engine soon light came on.

Also could the bad coolant temperature reading cause this?

You haven't fixed that yet? Don't you think you should? You know it causes an extra rich condition. Fix things that you know that are broken, so you can rule them out as variables.

Sounds like 3 things going on. 1) the open pipes are fooling with the O2 sensor readings, The coolant temp sensor is fooling with the pcm's enrichment programs and the valves are misadjusted.

Start with the coolant temp sensor wiring. Then start over on the valve adjustment...follow one of the methods on Rob's page. Then it'll run...but inot well until you fix the exhaust...
