96 LT1 starts for 3 seconds and stops....
I drove home and it started running wierd like it was wanting to die. I made it home and when I went to leave it started and ran but when I put it in gear it stalled from then on it will only start and for about three seconds then die - unless I continually mess with the accelerator pedal. As soon as I stop moving the pedal it dies.
I replaced the fuel filter and while doing this I turned the key with an open line (from another post I read here) and gas came gushing out for a couple of seconds then stopped. Put the new filter on and it did the same thing.
I have read for hours through the posts on here and I have gotten alot of good knowledge on problems. Because of this I am looking at buying a scanner, but want to make sure the ACTRON CP9145 is right for my vehicle. Sorry if I dont trust people at parts stores...
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the fuel pump. It primes with the key on engine off and starts but can't maintain pressure so the engine dies after the pressure drops. Without a gauge to make sure I'd say it was the most likely.

but when I play with the accelerator pedal it will keep running hi rpm....mid....low...just so long I keep adjusting the throttle it is ok. As soon as I hold the throttle still it dies. I kept it running for a couple of minutes this way.

I tood the sensor off and Ohm'd it out. When I move the sensor (simualting throttle movement) it shows variations in the resistance. I ordered a scanner so I am just going to wait till it comes in

You should see variations when the TPS moves. It should sweep between around .5 volts (idle) to around 5 volts (WOT.) It should move very smoothly and not "drop out" or jump around. You can check this with the key on/engine off.
Using an Ohm meter will tell you the same thing as voltage as the the TPS is a variable resistor. I don't know what values to look for. Still I would assume it would be high Ohms at idle and lower at WOT and should decrease smoothly, in the case of an Ohm meter, through from idle to WOT.

Re: 96 LT1 starts for 3 seconds and stops....
So apparently all I had to do was buy a code scanner to fix my car! I initially received an error code
P0122 Mod$10
TPS/Pedal Position
Sensor A
Circut Low Input
Then I stated the car, had the same symptoms initally, then over a two minute period started to smooth out. I took the car for a ride then a hard ride-ran fine. Cleared the codes, turned the vehicle off and started it a couple of times and no error codes. I guess the sight of that scanner scared the gremlins out of my car....

A scanner is just that, unless you bought one that was able to clear codes. Even then, it sounds odd that it just went away by you hooking a scanner up to it.
I guess it's possible, since you removed the TPS sensor and reinstalled it, that if for some reason the contacts were dirty or something it fixed it.
