96Z starting weird
Over the winter, I added an MSD coil and ignition box and I still have stock plugs and wires (77,000 miles). I noticed that the car starts kinda hard, cranking a few times before firing up. Today I took it out for the first time, and it was running great. I put it away for a few hours, and then when I went to start it tonight, it cranked and cranked and cranked....when I finally let the key go back to the "run" position, it started at a very low 500 rpm level. It has done this a couple times already since 5 p.m.....It cranks will the key is turned, but as soon as i let it back to the run position, then it starts up, but at a very low level. Anyone have any ideas? Could it just really need new plugs and wires?

I did put on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator this winter. Its set at a ridiculous 52 psi. I havent had time to adjust it. Could that be the problem? What should i set my pressure at?
The plugs and wires will be going in next month.
I was wondering if maybe ths MSD 6AL Ignition box may have gone bad? Is that possible so soon? Could that be causing the problem? How can I check if thats broken?

As suggested above, I would check your fuel pressure. If your fuel pressure is low during cranking, the car won't start. Your new AFPR could be faulty causing your pressure not to hold (bleed back off) during starting. The fuel pump also has an internal check valve to generate a holding pressure during starting. Engineering running fuel pressure can be fine; it's the holding pressure that's needed during starting.

I just replaced my Aeromotive AFPR with a stock one. It was a piece of crap. I thought the intake gasket was bad cause it was hard to start, idled terrible, and I could smell gas all the time. When I began pulling everything off to change the gasket, I saw that the inside of the manifold was soaked in gasoline. The vacuum port on the top of the regulator was leaking gas into the manifold. I don't think I'll ever buy another Aeromotive regulator again.
I'd say put a stocker back on and see what happens.

Yeah, I got mine replaced by Aeromotive with one of their newer designs that doesn't fit. They wanted me to zip tie the fuel line so it would stay in place. To heck with that. Luckily, I got it from my friend's shop and he's letting me return it and use the money for my C5 rotors.
