97ss Cai

If you are going to stick with the original SLP ram air intake box then buy a holley power shot, 10 times better than the weak, poorly designed K&N. The K&N was simply not design to withstand the pressure and collapses, mine did it time and time again. The Holley Power shot is stronger and holds up to the pressure coming through the hood. I give it 2 thumbs up on the design, does it flow better? probably, they are made out of the same material <shrug> if you get time test it.
I am tired of hearing about the 96-97 SS SLP ram air box not being as affective as a after market CAI, its the same darn thing, its pulling air from the outside, there for making it a CAI setup to. Heat soaked? I say screw that, the air is passing through fast enough it doesn't have time to absorb the heat, get a SLP temp sensor to fool the computer into thinking the air coming in is 37* at all times, problem solved. SLP wouldn't of designed the hood and air box if didn't mean performance, its not an appearance mod.

Thanks for the info Rick. I think I will order the Holley. I was never planning on going to CAI over the ram air. As I stated before I know SLP knows what they are doing and there was no way I was going to have a ram air hood and not even use it. Just trying to see if anyone knew of a setup that used both like the 98-03 SS.

Just a thought. Doesn't the SS airbox gets heat soaked since it sits directly over the intake manifold thus warming the incoming air? Or it really doesn't matter since the incoming air travels only a short distance to the TB.
