adjusing valve without oil in the motor

I adjusted my valves while doing my rebuild. Should I re-adjust them after I get oil pressure. Just a gut feeling, I think I should. Should I go with my gut?

Thanks:

Well it can't hurt so might as well.

There is no reason to - find zero lash and depending upon who you talk to, tighten down an additional 1/2-full turn. If you set it correctly while building the motor - you should not have to do it again.

Cool, thanks. When I set mine. I turn the nut to 4 o'clock. Tighten down the lock snug, then tighten, then it looks like it turns to a 6 o'clock.

Thanks:

It will depend on the lifter and the actual setting you are striving to achieve. Prior experience is also helpful. It does make for a good starting point however.

Thanks:

Right on. I've got another ground or 2 to hook up and plug in a few more wires, bolt up the y pipe fill the fluids, reset the valves, bleed the brakes and it should be complete.

When I did heads and cam I adjusted them once and after a few miles I noticed they started clacking more so I'm guessing once the lifters have oil in them you have to adjust some more...at least that seems to be my case.

Hydraulics are supposed to be set and forget, when you assemble the motor, give the polylocks 3/4 to 1 full turn and you will not have to mess with them again.

is this on 1:5 or 1:6 rockers equally?

Re: adjusing valve without oil in the motor

What you are doing is establishing pre-load on the lifter - the rocker ratio does not matter.
