afr 220 vs. le3 heads...

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
Guys remember lots of boost can make up for a lot of things.... Boosted numbers only relate if you have the same psi level, type of intercooler etc....
What you should really be looking at here is the differences between the two heads and what you need.
The big advantage on the 210's is the thick deck surface it has vs a stock casting. That is going to help keep the head on the block and not lift under high boost.
BTW I just finished up with a 352 cube turbo build and it has a set of AFR's on top of it.
You can always do the combination and have Lloyd port a set of AFR's for you.
I'm pretty sure that the $1300 would be complete (porting, valve job, milling, valves, springs etc...)

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
My local guy is cleaning up a set of AFR 210's that I had bought that were originally ported by a shop in Texas.
I will have around $3K into the heads when they are done and the results are pretty decent:
AFR 210, 2.19/1.62
LIFT---INT--EXH--I/E%
0.200--168--112--0.67
0.300--222--151--0.68
0.400--262--206--0.79
0.500--289--218--0.75
0.600--307--232--0.76
0.700--311--246--0.79
These are the results as of 1-1/2 weeks ago. He left a message telling me that he has gotten even better numbers at every point.
I had a set of AFR 220's and my AFR 210's flow better all over the place...but I am sure with the same work, the AFR 220's would nudge them out.
Some local shops can sometimes do well...

I have a set of AFR 220's that are going to Lloyd. I'm going solid roller so I think shaft rockers are in the future for these heads. For an N/A motor you need to take into account the displacement and how high you're going to rev before picking which head is right for you.

I know his porting will outflow AFR's.

Flow numbers are nice to sell cylinder heads, but they are just like dyno numbers. We don't race flow benches or dynos, we race cars.
Fact is some of the fastest SBC, LT1/4, and LS1's run AFRs. Yeah there are other heads that are as good and some that might be a bit better however AFRs consistantly are on top.

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
My buddy paid alot of money for his comp ported afr 195 LT4s. They were very rough and flowed quite a bit less than advertised on a superflow bench with a stock size bore. He changed from a 306 cam to a Joe O grind and had Eric Bradby clean the heads up. He picked up over a full second and 5 or six mph I believe in a convert.

I know ya didn't go to that sight and read.
West Coast Cyl Heads IS a head porting shop and that's ALL they do.
Wasn't talking about AFR castings The question was about their port work.
So ya can comment all ya want without reading, seeing or talking to someone that KNOWS head porting.
