afr 220 vs. le3 heads...

Diablo....
Ron's Porting Service gets some nasty wind thru a Dart casting, once the platinum stuff comes out for the aluminum heads that would be a hell of a choice.

Then again there are a few other guys out there too.

Did ya look at the other stuff he does? 15° Gm heads that go 372cfm, Brodix 15° that go 393cfm, All Pro 23° heads that move 382cfm.
Not to compare them to Ai, but Ron knows what he's doing. Hell other guys out there to talk to would be Meaux Racing Heads, Airflowdevelopment, Modern Cylinder Head, West Coast Cylinder Heads or some other options like CFE, MBE or Chapman but the last 3 are less likely to talk to you about a 23° street head. I've worked with Larry @ Meaux, Dennis @ Airflowdevelopment and Richard @ West Coast and they are all very smart head porters with a good record behind them. Meaux has 28+ NHRA records, Airflowdevelopment has probably the fastest LT headed race car out there and Modern does the head for Al Corda's NHRA LS1 drag car that has it's class records. It's a big world out there, but if you think some head porters are expensive some of these guys might scare you.
I gave ya the link just to show you how much wind a Dart can do when ported properly, I'm not a huge fan of AFR's.

Yeah....
Don't go ask Dennis @ Airflowdevelopment about his LT1 castings for racing only, when you see the $7K+ price you will ****.
BTW with a 18-15° head you need shaft mounts, pistons, intake, headers made to work with them so I wouldn't go thinking about that if I was you.

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
Anyone who spends over 2k to port a set of non-raised runner 23º heads for street use needs a good a$$ whipping.
Just doesn't make any sense to me... not considering the options. There are just too many guys running 10-11 second 1/4's with under $2k port jobs to justify it. If you want more than that then you'll just need to $tep up.
The guys over at Bischoff do some great sbc head work too but I wouldn't send them a set of LT1/LT4 heads. I'd send em' something better.

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
Worry about the other issues you have first.
I kinda lke Lloyd because you gotta spend $800-900 with anyone else to get something equal to the LE3 head.
When you build a motor with the race heads I showed you it's a hell of a project that ain't cheap. I would say to do it right you probably need about $15K to build the motor the right way.

Re: afr 220 vs. le3 heads...
$2K on port work on a 23° for a street car is nuts!
Yeah I should have put BES on that list as well, Tony is no chump!
Mindgame for what it's worth Chris Uratchko has those BES All Pros up for sale.

Facts are facts, engines I build with AFR heads never seem to disappoint me or my customers on the engine or chassis dyno. I am sure you can get more out of an AFR casting but then you are talking about paying someone $1000-$1200 just for their labor costs, not including valvetrain
