I'm not argueing that Canton's had a perfect track record for their Fbody oil pan's. They haven't, as many will attest to.

However, it's far more likely you'll read about bad experiences than you would about the good ones.

It's not very entertaining to post how well your oil pan seals. Most people will just take it for granted.

If on the other hand somebody has a bad experience, they're going to want to share it.

I still stand by my old post when I said if Canton was really that bad, word would have spread by now and they'de b out of business.

I know many people with the Canton on their Fbody and none of them have problems. Then again, they're all the newer design which Canton claims to have corrected the sealing problems with that they had in the past with their previous Fbody pans.

When I finally assemble my motor, I'll let you know how my Canton seals.

On all these leaky Canton pans I wonder if it is the gasket and install procedure that might have something to do with it. I read several posts about people spinning bearings after doing a cam swap as well, generally that has more to do with poor install and cleanliness than anything else.
No, The threads that I have read, the guys said that they cleaned the pans and watched the oil seep through the welds! That's why you hear guys buying them and letting water sit in them for a while before they install them.

I bought a 383 blower engine that has excellent parts in it, and was well planned out, and they used the stock pan. I figure that it'll work fine since there seems to have been a lot of research done with regards to the engine as a "package", and I've seen your input and Rich's as well, but I still can't help but wonder if it's worth throwing another pan on there. If there's any simple mod to better keep the oil on the pickup in a stock pan, that would be great.
I know it's been over a month, but I'm still curious about this. Getting around to putting the engine in within the next week or two, and it's now or never, lol.

Moroso just made a custom kick out 7-quart pan for my 383. They put the windage tray, crank scrapper and trapped door baffle all into it. If i knew how to post up pics I would, but I don't. E-mail me and I can send em to ya.

Hello Birdie. I'm just up the road in Northville. Did a 383 with D1-Procharger in a 97 ss Camaro. I would like to share information. I have a Canton pan. Works OK. Very tight to the stearing rack. Can be a problem when changing a cam in the future.

i also am in need of an oil pan for my new 355 setup, not for clearencing. my rod put a hold on my stock one.
my car is lowered, will an aftermarket larger capacity pan sit lower? i don't want to scrape the oil pan.
