Ai 190cc/HR Results - 96mph 1/8th

I made it to the track last Friday and got some new NA results. I wanted to share with others on the board my results from an Ai Heads/Cam setup. The weather was pretty good around -400 DA, but the track was only marginal. I spun two passes to 1.8 60ft times. Next pass was clean and I went:

RT - 0.612
60ft - 1.641
1/8 - 7.311
MPH - 96.15

I was stoked by the MPH so I went out to back up the time and hooked better but short shifted 1-2 and banged the limiter on 2-3 with the result of:

RT - 0.683
60ft - 1.593
1/8 - 7.248
MPH - 94.74

I think if I hadn't blown the shifting the car would have easily gone 7.1x at the MPH from the run before it. All in all I am extremely pleased with the new bests. I never thought my nitrous setup would put down numbers like it did.

Setup is 34-3500lbs race weight with parts removed and parts added. Forged 355, 3500 nitrous stall, th400 and a 9inch with 28inch ET Drags. Cam is a nitrous grind from Phil @ Ai and is smaller than an LE3 with way more LSA. The car last dynoed 341rwhp in virtually the same setup. The motor is unchanged from 3 years ago when I used to daily drive it. I hope to be back out in two weeks to spray the car and try out a couple of small changes to get a little lower ET.

NIce times! This just goes to show you that sometimes dyno numbers are completely off!

I assume the run was on nitrous. Was the dyno pull also on nitrous?

I don't think so, thats why he said hope to get back out and spray it.....

Good MPH for sure, 60' sucks......if you had good 60' I think it would go hi 10's on motor

Lol no. The runs were on motor. I would have loved to spray the single nozzle kit that night but I broke the fitting and haven't ordered a new one yet.

The dyno was also on the motor. Dyno was through the th400, but through a 10 bolt. I had an ignition and a converter issue so I swapped converters and installed an LTCC. Then added the 9inch and 28inch slicks.

I've sprayed the car before with a NX 100 wet shot, and it picked up 8/10 and 10 mph in the 8th mile.

As for hooking, that track is a parking lot at the stadium. Not exactly known for prep or traction. The 1.59 60ft was actually my best ever at that track including on the bottle. I've got a few more tweaks for the suspension next time out that I hope will help it hook even harder. I'd love to see it run mid to low 1.5s on motor and ??? ET.

That would explain really low dyno #'s... probably should mention that in the first post when you mention the 341rwhp.

Converter issue wasn't really a dyno issue. It just came apart one day and took out the transmission. And the ignition miss was the standard opti misfire above 6k. The car peaked 341rwhp at like 6200 and then trailed off due to the miss.

The inclusion of my dyno numbers was only to show that my dyno numbers don't matter. I've said it on here dozens of times as have others like ABA383.

Dyno's are sweet, flow numbers are great but neither of them wins a race.

BTW, what type of dyno was it?

nice times and MPH.

the TH 400 and 9" rear is killing the dyno #'s but the MPH shows it is making power.

Pretty good for a hyd roller cam with less than 234 duration like the LE3 cam.

I thought about bulding a TH 400 for mine when the trans went south but opted to stay with the 4L60 and keep the overdrive with 3.55 gears. It seems to handle N/A OK but not sure what will happen when i spray it. 3760 lbs and the 4L60 might not like the abuse it is gonna see. only time will tell.

That's the price I paid. I gave up a bit of performance for reliability. I'm sure I could gain some ET and MPH with a locking converter, better first gear and less rotating mass, but I want something that will hold up to plenty of nitrous.

I'm very happy with how it ran setup for the bottle. I bet there is some power on the table with an NA tune (more than 34 degrees of timing and a bit leaner) or an NA stall, or a bigger cam with less LSA, 26 inch tires etc. But why mess with a good thing?

In the next month I'm going to make some changes and adjustments and hopefully buy some weight reduction parts. Sometime in mid January I'll be towing to Sacramento Raceway for some 1/4 mile runs.
