Alternator

I have a 97 Z/28 that i race i was just wondering if i could come off the alternator wire and install a toggle switch inside the car and just before i get ready to make a run flip the switch and kill the alternator so that going up the track the alternator could not kick in and that might make the car run more consitant and once i cross the finish line flip the switch back on what do you all guys think has anyone ever tried this.

Lightbulb Re: Alternator

It's not worth the effort.
This has been talked about before and it got pretty heated too.
But I would say it's not worth it because you need the voltage for your computer and all the electronics on the car.
If the PCM does not have the right voltage you will loose HP.

Re: Alternator

Not the 12V wire but the regulator wire ( I ). It was worth a solid tenth on 5.0 Mustangs

Re: Alternator

If it's a one wire ya have to do it internal. If otherwise there should be a wire that comes from the ignition switch for the reg (I) that should stop it from charging.
